All of the Christian Brothers Academy girls swim team’s stars were on full display during last Wednesday night’s 94-83 conquest of Skaneateles Wednesday night at the Le Moyne College pool.
Summer Schmitt tore through the 200 freestyle in 1:58 flat and also won the 100 butterfly in 58.28 seconds, all after swimming a leg in the Brothers’ victorious 200 medley relay team, which finished in 1:58.31.
Kathryn Coughlin, who also was in that 200 medley, claimed the 200 individual medley in 2:21.18 as a prelude to the 500 freestyle, where she beat the field in 5:38.84. Cassandra Finkbeiner earned 186.05 points on the diving board.
Maggie Fletcher, concentrating on the sprints, tore through the 50 freestyle in 25.53 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 55.23 seconds. All of this was before the 200 freestyle relay, where she joined Mary Frances Ierlan, Julia Torell and Lexy McCauley for a victory in 1:51.28.
Jamesville-DeWitt got a victory on Wednesday, too, hosting Mexico and putting together a 101-84 victory over the Tigers.
The Coyne sisters both won two events. Katie Coyne had a strong time of 2:18.30 in the 200 IM before claiming the 100 butterfly in 1:01.50. Alden Coyne followed up a title in the 50 freestyle (26.20 seconds) by earning a 100 freestyle victory in 57.51 seconds.
Elsewhere, Meghan Parker took first in the 200 freestyle (2:14.71), while Jessica Rieger earned 155.1 points on the diving board. Erin Reeves was first in the 500 freestyle (6:27.60) as Sophia Farchione took the 100 backstroke (1:05.90) and Molly Hair (1:14.90) won the 100 breaststroke.
J-D’s 200 medley relay quartet of Bess Murrad, Hayley Schultz, Marissa Potamianos and Samantha Coombs prevailed in 2:07.30, with Coombs, Potamianos and Parker helping Meredith Wagner as the Rams took the 200 freestyle relay in 1:51 flat.
Fayetteville-Manlius saw its season-long struggles continue last Tuesday night with a 97-87 defeat to Cicero-North Syracuse at the Le Moyne College pool, where the Northstars, like CBA, conduct its home meets.
To give the Hornets some positive news, Julie Barger prevailed in the 500 freestyle in 5:49.19, also claiming the 100 backstroke in 1:10.71.
Grace Garver, who won the 100 butterfly in 1:10 flat, teamed with Barger, Caroline Mortelitti and Morgan Way for a top time of 4:20.44 in the 400 freestyle relay. Breanna Ruffrage led the Northstars with titles in the 200 freestyle (2:09.96) and 100 freestyle (59.17 seconds).
