Nine young men from Skaneateles Boy Scout’s of America Troop 61 have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and were recognized in a ceremony on Sunday, June 10, at the First Presbyterian Church.
The scouts honored were: David DuBois, Michael Fabrizio, Stephen Hartnett, Alex LaGrow, Shaun McConnaghy, James (L.J.) Mills, Ryan Prochna, Andrew Taft and Matthew Wolford. All are students at Skaneateles High School.
Requirements to earn Eagle Scout rank include earning at least 21 merit badges and demonstrating “scout spirit” through the Boy Scout Oath and Law, service and leadership. They also must perform a service project that benefits others that the scout plans, organizes, leads, and manages.
Eagle Scout is a high honor that only about 5 percent of boys in the scouting program achieve. This is the largest group Troop 61 has had with this achievement in Skaneateles history.
