The voters have spoken, and they whole-heartedly support the Jamesville-DeWitt School District budget of $47,847,195.
With the official final tally in, 884 voted in favor, while 236 said no.
“We’re pleased that we have such a supportive community that’s in favor of our children’s education,” Dr. Alice Kendrick, district superintendent, said. “We really appreciate the support.”
On Proposition 1, which was a vote on purchasing two 66-passenger diesel school buses at a cost of $207,438 as well as one 66-passenger diesel bus with luggage at a cost of $105,706 and a 30-passenger bus with a cost of $96,056, 816 voted in favor, as opposed to 304 against. The total sum is not to exceed $409,200.
Proposition 2 focused on whether the district should levy and collect tax to increase the amount of funding for the DeWitt Community Library from $$1,209,535 to $1,256,652, persuant to section 259 of the Education law. A total of 837 voted in favor, with 268 against.
In the Board of Education vote, which pitted five people up for three open spots, all three incumbents won. Jill Walsh, Mark Schulman and Jack McLoughlin each received more votes than challengers Charles Frank and Joseph Popcun.
