Winners of the 19th Annual Baldwinsville Public Library Photography Contest, cosponsored by the Library and the Baker Studio of Photography, were announced at a library reception in honor of the student photographers on Monday May 2. All 74 of this year’s submitted works were accepted for exhibition.
The first prize of $100 went to “Breakfast” by Alaynna Wallon. Second prize of $50 was awarded to “42nd & 7th” by Marina Massaro. Third prize of $25 went to “Free As We’ll Ever Be” by Alexa Vecchio, one of the winners of last year’s Judge’s Choice awards. This year’s three Judge’s Choice awards went to “Invisible Monsters: Part 1” by Michael Alexander, “Masquerade” by Daniel Reed and “Seeing Wisdom” by Natalie Redmore. Recipients of the Judge’s Choice awards each received a Cross Pen.
Judging was arranged and led by Edwin and Kevin Baker of the Baker Studio of Photography with the able assistance of Jim Dygert of Photography by Jim Dygert, Jon Barden, director of the Baldwinsville Theatre Guild, and Kelvin Ringold, photographer and past president of the CNY Photographers Group. This photo contest is open to all high school students in ninth through 12th grades living in the Baldwinsville School District. The photos are judged on the merits of their impact, creativity and technical quality. All accepted photos will receive a ribbon and be on exhibit in the Baldwinsville Public Library’s Art Gallery during the month of May.
The public is invited to help select the winner of the final People’s Choice award this month by voting for their favorite photo. The student whose work receives the most votes will receive special recognition and a $10 cash prize.
