Hottest Out Series starts
Entertainers of all sorts – from rappers to comics, from singers to instrumentalists – are invited to showcase their talents every second Friday of each month in the Hottest Out Series starting at 7 p.m. Friday April 8, at the Boys & Girls Club, 201 Shonnard St., on the city’s West End; 863-1315.
Selected performances will be aired on Time Warner public access channels.
‘Einstein’s Amazin’ Equation’
Open Hand Theater performs “Einstein’s Amazin’ Equation,” a World of Puppets presentation, at 11 a.m. Saturday April 9, at the International Mask & Puppet Museum, 518 Prospect St. on the North Side.
The puppet play recounts the life of the most famous, and perhaps the most eccentric, scientist of the 20th century. Admission costs 8 for adults and $6 for children; 476-0466.
Toronto tunesmith here Saturday
Imagine a kitchen party attended by Mother Maybelle Carter, Ella Fitzgerald, Bessie Smith and Patsy Cline, and you begin to get a sense of what it feels like inside the head of songwriter Eve Goldberg.
The Toronto-based tunesmith will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday April 9, at the Westcott Community Center, 826 Euclid Ave., at the intersection of Westcott Street, Admission costs $10, or $8 for WCC members; 478-8634.
Never one to restrict herself to a single genre of music, Goldberg has performed her blend of blues, bluegrass, folk, old-time and jazz in venues ranging from house concerts to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Born in Boston, Goldberg has lived in Toronto for the past 30 years. She has released three CDs, “Ever Brightening Day,” “Crossing the Water” and “A Kinder Season.”
British organist at fairgrounds
Well-traveled British keyboardist Paul Roberts will play the world-famous Syracuse Wurlitzer at 7:30 p.m. Sunday Oct. 18, at the New Times Theater in the Art & Home Center, at the State Fairgrounds in Geddes. Admission costs $15 for adults, $2 for children, and the theater is handicapped-accessible.

Balestra headlines in Caz
Syracuse-born guitarist Rick Balestra will headline Cazenovia High School’s Ninth Annual Jazz Night, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday April 12, at the CHS Auditorium, 31 Emory Ave., in Cazenovia. Balestra’s performance with the Cazenovia High School Jazz Ensemble will be conducted by Kathy DiNardo.
Balestra will be accompanied by his brother, percussionist Larry Balestra, along with Brendan Van Epps on saxophone and Chris Colabello on bass.
