The Cazenovia Lions Club held its 4th Annual Memorial Day Duck Race on May 25 after the Memorial Day Parade on Chittenango Creek near the Boy Scout Lodge in Cazenovia. Hundreds of colorful plastic ducks floated their way down Chittenango Creek towards the bridge at Route 20 where Lion Tom Long scooped them up in to his net. The winners were noted as they were plucked out of the creek by Long.
Many individuals were kind enough to assist, including Matt Amidon and Cullinan Williams, both of Cazenovia, who bravely waded in to the chilly creek water!
All of the adults and children who came to watch and participate had a lot of fun watching the ducks make their way to the finish line!
The winners of this year’s Cazenovia Lions Club Duck Race were 1st place, Edmund Hartt, Lincolnville, Maine; 2nd place, Meredith Falso, Fayetteville; 3rd place, Doug LaFever, Cazenovia; and Random Duck Winners Beth Carpenter of Cazenovia, Devon Halliday of Delmar; Dan Homik of Cazenovia, Annie Leonard of Cazenovia, Kathy McKinnon of Cazenovia and Jane Uzcategui of Cazenovia. Prize for last duck out of the water went to John Druke of Cazenovia.
The Cazenovia Lions Club Duck Race benefits the Cazenovia Lions Club Scholarship Program. Each year the Cazenovia Lions Club awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors who have exemplified outstanding community service.
The Cazenovia Lions Club would like to thank friends and community for their donations towards the Scholarship Program. A very special thank you to the Cazenovia P&C, McKinnon Liquors and Key Bank for allowing the Cazenovia Lions to hold their duck sales!
