Even as a string of area high school girls tennis matches fell victim to the wet late-October weather, plenty of contests did take place, especially at week’s end.
Keeping itself undefeated, Fayetteville-Manlius claimed a 6-1 decision over Cicero-North Syracuse last Wednesday afternoon on the Northstars’ home courts.
Anna Manta and Phoebe Wang paired up in doubles for the Hornets, shutting out Autumn Brown and Eve Campitello 6-0, 6-0, while by those same scores Julia Egnaczyk and Kendra Elliott beat Golden Duru and Megan Meives.
Natalie Hugo and Brooke Tester added a point by handling Megan Johnston and Brooke Ten Brink 6-0, 6-1, with Alexis Ahn and Angela Iskander winning 6-0, 6-3 over Abigail Bustin and Jenna Mills.
C-NS got its lone point in singles when Krista Feeney outlasted Samhitha Adavikolanu 7-6, 1-6, 10-6. But Trisha Adavikolanu routed Karly Williams 6-1, 6-0 as Emma Zogg roared past Cambrie Hibbard 6-2, 6-2.
Not stopping there, F-M struck again on Saturday, handling West Genesee 5-2 with the highlight a singles classic where Manta, trailing early, rallied to beat the Wildcats’ Katie Viau 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Trisha Adavikolanu lost in singles, but Egnaczyk routed Sarah Bacon 6-0, 6-1, while in doubles the teams of Ahn-Iskander, Hugo-Tester and Maya McKenzie-Camila Wojtasiewicz each won in two sets. Zogg and Samhitha Adavikolanu had a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 loss to Alyssa Congel and Margaret Mello.
Jamesville-DeWitt resumed action last Wednesday and got its own shutout, handling Central Square 6-0.
By identical 6-1, 6-2 scores, the Red Rams’ Inika Gajra and Ebunoluwa Oguntola won over, respectively, Grace Roberts and Savannah Gunther, with Mona Farah handling Carolyn Lederer 6-0, 6-0.
Elina Park and Serena Patel rescued a point in doubles by rallying past Carley Cinquemani and Arianna Smolnik 4-6, 6-2, 10-7. Celia Reid and Lana Wisniewki swept Lauren Poland and Peyton Webb 6-2, 6-1 as Hallie Bouchard and Linda Shen got a 6-1, 6-1 win over Karina Stewart and Olivia Whewell.
Bishop Grimes also earned a victory on Wednesday, edging Jordan-Elbridge 4-3 as Sarah Falgiatano and Sofia Zinkoski both won 10-0 shutouts over, respectively, Gabrielle Skotinski and Jillian Ferris.
Needing two points in doubles, the Cobras got them when Julia Avery and Deddeh Fasama handled Mia Disinger and Hannah Power 10-3, while Eleanor DeChick and Leah Perry held off Laura Alcock and Laney Green 10-7.
East Syracuse Minoa played indoors last Tuesday against West Genesee at Pine Grove, managing just a single point in a 6-1 defeat to the Wildcats.
It was in doubles that the Spartans’ Angelina Baxter and Neveah Harris broke through, beating Ava Amodio and Elianna Cui 10-6.
In other single-set battles, Bella Sylvester got close in singles, but lost to Angelina Allen 10-7, while in doubles Rhiannon Axtman and Tierrah Bauer fell 10-5 to Kayla Latone and Isabelle Wells.
But the Spartans were successful on Saturday against Cortland, edging the Purple Tigers 4-3 as it gained a singles point through a forfeit but also had Sylvester win 6-1, 6-2 over Jordan Vail.
Both points in doubles came from straight-set wins. Alana Day and Caitlin Abbott handled Sadie Urtz and Julia Guest 6-4, 6-3 as Baxter and Harris beat Rowan Harbin and Olivia McKenna by those exact same scores.
