At its home pool for the first time this fall, the Baldwinsville girls swim team found itself unable to contain the CNY Counties League front-runners from Cicero-North Syracuse.
The Bees’ 57-37 defeat to the Northstars last Wednesday night included some individual standouts, including Noelle Staso, who won two events, starting with the 50-yard freestyle where she posted a time of 25.46 seconds, well clear of C-NS’s Olivia Griffin (26.12 seconds) and the field.
Much later, in the 100 breaststroke, Staso again ruled, finishing in 1:11.57 to prevail by nearly three seconds over the Northstars’ Brooke Fedi (1:11.47), who had earlier won the 100 butterfly.
But B’ville had just one other individual race victory, in the 100 backstroke, where Erin Mordaunt needed 1:07.60 to hold off C-NS’s Carla Champagne (1:09.53) for the top spot. Anna DiOrio battled to second place in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.10, where C-NS’s Kiersten Coates (58.63 seconds) prevailed.
Kali Sacco was second in the 200 individual medley in 2;36.94 and third (1:11.01) in the 100 butterfly, while Grace Skapura got third place in the 200 IM (2:39.15). Alyse Baker, third in the 500 freestyle, had that same finish in the 200 freestyle (2:14.95) as C-NS’s Grace Devinney won both events.
B’ville would have two meets this week, going to Oswego Tuesday before confronting Liverpool on Thursday night.
