Christian Brothers Academy welcomes four new teachers, including two alumni, two long-term substitutes and a student information specialist for the 2016-17 school year.
The new teachers and staff members took part in a three-day orientation Aug. 23 to 25. Patrick Wiese ’10 and Tyler Hamblin ’11 return to their alma mater. Wiese, who graduated from LeMoyne College, and has dedicated the past two years to starting a not for profit organization, the Patrick Wiese Foundation, will be teaching seventh grade mathematics. Hamblin, a graduate of Harvard University, recently completed one year of service for Teach for America in the Baltimore City School District. Hamblin will be teaching senior government and economics and is an assistant coach on the varsity football team.
Alyssa Blount has been hired as a full-time orchestra instructor. Blount holds a bachelor’s degree in music education, as well as a master’s degree in violin performance. She has taught at both the Fayetteville-Manlius and Liverpool School Districts, as well as Syracuse University.
Felicia Tynan has been hired to teach seventh grade science. Tynan received her degree in biology from LeMoyne College, and has five years of prior teaching experience. She was also a member of the LeMoyne College Women’s Soccer team.
Lisa Spina will be subbing for English teacher Danielle Graham, and Tracy Cicci will be substituting for Guidance Counselor Katie Brown. Spina received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and her Master’s degree in Secondary English, both from the University at Albany. Cicci received her Bachelor of Science degree from Potsdam State College and a master’s degree in counseling education from Syracuse University. Anne Marie Vick, who has been hired as a student information specialist, is a graduate of Virginia Tech University and received her MBA from James Madison University.
Drop in Day for new students is 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 6. Orientation for students in grades 7 to 12 will be Thursday, Sept. 8 and Friday, Sept. 9. Students will be dismissed at noon on both days. The first full day of classes is Sept. 12.
