SKARTS announces 2016 grants awards
TheSkaneateles Area Arts Council (SKARTS) is pleased to announce the eight grant awards for the 2016 funding cycle. Seventeen grant applications were received.
They are the following:
The Skaneateles Trinity Lutheran Church , $1000, for June 25 and July 16 Jefferson Quartet Concerts.
The Auburn Chamber Music Orchestra, $1000, for two $500 scholarships for graduating seniors who layed iin the ACO and are pursuing music majors in college.
The Onondaga Library, $700, for four new muscial art series offered to sixth through twelfth grades combined with a focus on STEM disciplines.
The Masterworks Chorale, $500, to help hire professional musicians to accompany the chorale for three of their six concerts.
The Auburn Public Theater, $500, for field trip to Skanfest Winton Marsalis Concert for culturally underserved youth from low income families.
The Merry-Go-Round Theater, $500, to suport sign language interpretation for production of “From Here to Eternity.”
The Seymour Library, $400, for family friendly performances and activities on First Fridays.
The Fairmont Library, $400, to teach the art of reading to pre-schoolers to third grade through music.
To date, SKARTS has issued over 70 grants to individual artists, art organizations, choral groups, museums, schools, theaters, libraries and other community non-profit organizations since the program was begun in 2006.
SKARTS funding for community projects is dependent on revenue raised primarily from annual events celebrating the arts. The next event will be presented from July 14 to 16.
The first juried art show and sale will be held at Loft 42, Genesee Street, Skaneateles from 10 to 5 p.m.
A suggested donation of $5 will be accepted at the door. All are invited to attend the opening reception on Thrusday July 14 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Loft 42.
The reception will include live music, food and drink by Chef Christopher Kuhns and the Mandana Inn and an opportunity to meet the artists and enjoy their works. Tickets can be purchased for $50 at SKARTS.org.
