Just before the sunshine and warmer temperatures returned, Baldwinsville’s track and field teams plunged into CNY Counties League competition and found immediate success.
The boys Bees, led by Ryan Delola and Austin Catalano, defeated the Bulldogs by a 108-33 margin, while in the girls meet B’ville rolled, too, handling Nottingham 111-30.
DeLola was first in the mile in four minutes, 51.9 seconds and went on to take the 3,200-meter run in 10:28.1. Catalano unleashed a first-place triple jump of 40 feet 4 inches and also prevailed in the long jump, going 18’9”.
Evan Donhauser went 15.7 second in the 110-meter high hurdles as Kevin Starr had a first-place high jump clearance of 5’8”. Greg Porceng needed 52.8 seconds to prevail at 400 meters before Kenneth Stehle took the 400 hurdles in 1:10.7 and Ethan Craig went 2:10.2 at 800 meters. Craig also helped the Bees’ 4×800 relay team prevail in 9:55.8 as Denis Keegan. Andrew VanSlyke and Garrett Vannatta also took part.
Adriana Straughter won twice, going through the 100-meter hurdles in 18.3 seconds and clearing 4 feet 10 inches in the high jump. Justus Holden-Betts claimed the 1,500-meter run in 5:22.7 and helped Kelley Hull, K Allen and L Camp take the 4×800 relay in 10:47.8.
Katie Wicks took the 200-meter dash in 28.4 seconds as Courtney Clute took the 400 sprint in 1:06.4. Mia Bolton ran 800 meters in 2:35 flat as Shylea Dukat blazed to a time of 1:06.2 in the 400 hurdles and Sophia Simone was first in the 3,000-meter run in 11:15.1.
As part of a relay sweep, the Bees saw Hannah Klaben, Jordyn Boutilier, Kathryn Weaver and Christina Bartelli cover the 4×100 in 53.6 seconds, with Klaben returning for the 4×400 to join Wicks, Dukat and Anna Demer for a top time of 5:18.3.
In field events, Haleigh Jaquint unleashed a top triple jump of 32 feet 8 inches. Kaitlynn Asditt threw the shot put 82’2”, while Anna Miller won the shot put with a throw of 29’8”.
