The winners of the June 18 village election were sworn in and the annual appointments to village positions and committees approved by the Cazenovia Village Board of trustees at its July 1 meeting.
This first meeting of the newly-constituted board began with the swearing in of new Trustee Fritz Koennecke, who defeated Peggy Van Arnam in the recent election. Mayor Kurt Wheeler, who was re-elected to a second term of office on June 18, also took his seat. Trustee Amy Mann, also re-elected last month, was out of town and absent from the meeting, but will officially assume her new term of office upon her return.
The board also unanimously approved its annual list of appointments for committees and additional duties for the trustees, as well as for numerous village positions and municipal board memberships.
Mayor Kurt Wheeler was reappointed to the shared services committee and the economic health and heritage committee.
Trustee Amy Mann was re-appointed to her position as deputy mayor and police commissioner, and will continue her duties as chair of the tree commission and the Carpenter’s Barn committee.
Trustee David Porter was appointed commissioner of water and sewer as well as fire commissioner. He will also serve on the lake watershed committee and as the village storm water grant coordinator.
Trustee Jim Joseph was named commissioner of buildings, streets, sidewalks and cemetery and also in charge of parking initiatives. He will serve on the Carpenter’s barn committee, the parking committee/HCBD initiatives and will continue his role as the board’s CACDA representative.
Trustee Fritz Koennecke was named the parks and recreation commissioner and the court liaison. He will also serve on the lake watershed committee, the shared services committee and be the employees health insurance consultant for the board.
Also appointed by the board:
—Katherine Burns as village clerk and treasurer for one year;
—Susan Dady as deputy village clerk and treasurer for one year;
—Kerry Bishal as clerk to the justice for one year;
—William Carr as superintendent of public works, zoning enforcement officer and building codes inspector, all for one year each;
—Samuel Usborne as street crew chief for one year;
—Jeffrey Hughes as cemetery superintendent for one year;
—James T. Stokes as village attorney for one year;
—Dunn & Sgromo Engineering as village engineer for one year.
Appointments to the various village municipal boards included:
—Jennifer Gavilondo to a five-year term on the village planning board;
—Jane Nicholson-Dourdas to a three-year term on the zoning board of appeals;
—William Howard Hunt to a five-year term on the zoning board of appeals;
—Scott Shannon to a five-year term on the historic preservation/architectural advisory review committee;
—William Carr as advisor to the planning board for one year;
—Russ Brownback, Steve Thomas and Tom Clarke all to the village ethics committee for terms of one year each;
—Amy Mann, Tom Tait, ted Bartlett, Jennifer Wielt and Betsy Moore as the five officially-appointed members of the village tree commission.
The village board also voted to continue having monthly meetings at 7 p.m. the first Monday of each month (unless otherwise notified) and to designate the Cazenovia Republican as the official village newspaper.
