The Cazenovia High School Library hosted several two-hour sessions called “Paper Jams!” last month for 9th and 10th graders. Students were given after-hours time to work on their research papers and use Noodletools, an internet-based organizing system that lets students create citations, notecards and outlines paperlessly.
The turn-out at the last session was very successful, said librarian Vicki Reutter.
“For an event that strictly involves academics, rather than sports, music, or clubs, it was amazing to see such interest,” she said.
Students used a combination of print and online sources for their free-topic research and were encouraged to use databases subscribed to by the library.
English teacher Pat Flocken initially tested the Noodletools system with her 9th graders. Flocken was instrumental in encouraging the rest of the English department to use the system, Reutter said.
Students appreciate Noodletools for its convenience.
“The best part is we can access it at home,” 9th grader Clay Fredericks said.
Teachers Pat Flocken, Christii Brenneck, Sue Lavrich and teacher’s aide Debbie Kutik helped to supervise Paper Jams.
Cazenovia Pizza provided discounted refreshments for the event.
