The New York State Thruway Authority announced that the 15-mile pavement reconstruction project between Interchanges 39 and 40 has resumed and that the project will involve the use of local routes to deliver materials beginning this week. The project, which began in the fall of 2008, includes the complete reconstruction of two travel lanes in both directions, shoulder work, rehabilitation of four bridges, reconstruction of ramps, in-pavement vehicle count stations, weigh-in motion stations to detect truck loads and various safety improvements. Contractors will utilize local roads to deliver materials to the various work sites between Interchanges 39 and 40. At the height of activity, truck traffic will be heavy — roughly 60 to 70 trucks per hour — and is expected to occur mainly during daylight hours. The following roads, towns and villages will be affected at various times this construction season: – From the Hanson Plant in Phelps, trucks will travel from Exit 42 to 40 to Route 31 east to Warners Road to Bennett’s Corner Road to work site. This route will impact traffic in the towns of Brutus, Elbridge and Van Buren. – From the Hanson Plant in Skaneateles, trucks will take Route 321 to Stump Road to Vinegar Hill Road to Route 317 to Route 31. This route will impact traffic in the town of Elbridge and Brutus. A second route will be Route 321 to Bennett’s Corner Road to Canal Road to Newport Road to Warners Road. This will impact traffic in the towns of Elbridge, Camillus and Van Buren. – From Hanson and Barrett Plant in Jamesville, trucks will take Route 481 to 690 to Jones Road to Brickyard Road to Warners Road. This will impact traffic in the town of Van Buren.
