Cazenovia College announced today that it has received a $2 million gift commitment, the largest in the college’s history.

The gift, from The Dorothy and Marshall M. Reisman Foundation, of DeWitt, is for the naming rights to the college’s Art and Design Building, to be named Reisman Hall.

“The campus community is overwhelmed by the magnitude of this gift and so grateful that it will allow us to honor and remember true friends of the college in the naming of Cazenovia college’s Art and Design Building,” said Cazenovia College President Mark J. Tierno. “Given Dorothy and Marshall’s great appreciation of art, the Foundation determined that the Art and Design Building naming would be a fitting tribute to them.”

Dorothy and Marshall M. Reisman owned the Wine Merchants, Ltd. Companies, located in New York, Ohio and Florida, for more than 50 years. Marshall was president, board member and chairman of the Jewish Community Center and Temple Adath Yeshurun, and was also on the board of trustees of the Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital, the Central New York Community Foundation, Syracuse Stage, the Culinary Institute of America, and several other boards.

In addition, Marshall served as a trustee of Cazenovia College from 1994 to 1997. He and his wife, Dorothy, lived in Cazenovia and continued to support the College over the years. The Reismans were dedicated art lovers; their unique collection was based on their love of living with art objects and not for status. Marshall passed away in February 2009, predeceased by Dorothy.

Members of the college community will honor the Reismans and the Foundation at a naming recognition event to be held in the near future.
