SYRACUSE – Each of Baldwinsville’s indoor track and field teams was charged up with extra emotion going into Saturday’s afternoon session of the Bob Grieve Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena.
And it translated into victories for both sides, with the boys picking up 206 points to lap the field and the girls, with 143 points, pulling away from West Genesee (100) to win, too.
Brandon Levin, in 6.73 seconds, edged WG’s Dom Burris (6.77) in a close boys 55-meter dash as Anthony Noda (7.01) was fifth, with Levin also taking the long jump by going 20 feet.
Solomon Holden-Betts ran into the state top 10 in the 3,200-meter run, winning in 9:33.30 as Noah Covert was third in 10:08.97 and Jacob Guelli (10:53.39) was fourth.
Similarly, in the 1,000-meter run Ryan Wilson prevailed in 2:40.52, with Paul Clark third (2:44.58) and Jeff Ragonese fourth (2:44.94), all of them season bests. Then Wilson helped Holden-Betts, Jack McAllister and Logan Hayes take the 4×800 relay in 8:51.50, nearly a minute ahead of the field.
Zach Arria got the 600-meter run in 1:30.64, with Brayden Bolton third in 1:32.45. In the 55-meter hurdles, the Bees were 1-2, Jackson Creelman edging Logan Zapf, 8.53 seconds to 8.54, but Zapf would win the triple jump with a personal-best 40’1 1/4” as Cooper Christman (36’2”) was fourth.
There was also a 1-2-3 sweep of the high jump, Griffin Killian winning by clearing 5’6” with fewer misses than teammates Kaleb Paul and Nate Glidden.
In the 4×400 relay Hayes, Levin, McAllister and Paul prevailed in 3:30.51 to edge West Genesee (3:32.43), with Kyle Sheckler clearing 12’6” to win the pole vault and Grayson Brady second by topping 10 feet.
David Dobrowolski was second (41’8 1/2”) and Dimitri Ioannids third (40’1”) in the shot put. In the weight throw, Dobrowolski went 50’10 3/4” for third place, with Nick Foster fourth (45’8 3/4”) and Ioannidis fifth (41’8 3/4”).
Ragonese got sixth in the 1,600-meter run, with Scott McDonald seventh and Peyton Brutcher eighth as Nate Glidden was eighth in the 300-meter dash. Adam Aviles, Jonah Offredi, Ayo Olayisade and Pat Otts were fifth in the 4×200 in 1:45.32.
On the girls side, B’ville nearly swept the field events. In the long jump, Natalie Bartkowiak went 14’4” as Lily Horan was seventh, and in the triple jump Bartkowiak’s 31’8” edged WG’s Grace McInerney (31’4”) for top honors.
Sydney McKenney also won two events, clearing 10’6” in the pole vault to beat out Kelsey Dwyer (9 feet) and Kate DeFio (7 feet) in the top 10. She also went 9.55 seconds to dominate the 55 hurdles as Erin Seitzer (10.83) got fifth place.
Adding to this was Julianna Gingrich with a winning shot put toss of 32”7 1/4”, a new season mark and nearly two feet ahead of the field.
Mia Pozzi, Clare Horan, Avamarie Davis and Madison Kennedy paired up to win the 4×400 in 4:13.45 to WG’s 4:18.51.
Kennedy, in 1:48.17, took second in the 600, with Brianna Grosso third in 1:49.20. Davis earned third place in the 300 in 45.25 seconds as Rachel Becker got seventh in 46.66.
Kamryn Barton went 3:09.19 to finish inches behind WG’s Peyton Long (3:09.12) in the 1,000 as Adrianna Orlando was fifth in 3:33.01. Anaiya Johnson got second in the 55 sprint in 7.85 seconds to go with a sixth in the triple jump.
In the 4×200, Johnson, Clare Horan, Haylee Robinson and Carlie Desimone were second in 2:01.09. Orlando, Yolanda Wei, Mary Sabatino and Sophia Cavalieri were third in the 4×800 in 10:44.79. Lily Horan was seventh in the 1,500-meter run in 5:48.26 and Paige Bohman got seventh in the weight throw with 26’6”.
