VILLAGE OF MANLIUS – In the village of Manlius, residents will choose between Chaim Jaffe and Tom Robertson for the position of village justice. The Eagle Bulletin asked each candidate for a statement summing up their relevant experience and explaining why they feel they are the best candidate for the position. Those statements are below.
Also on the ballot is a proposition pertaining to the village’s Length of Service Award Program for volunteer firefighters.
Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the village municipal building.
Chaim Jaffe
Citizens Party
My name is Chaim Jaffe. I am running for the office of village justice for the village of Manlius. I hope that you will consider voting for me on Election Day, March 15, 2022.
I currently serve as the village of Manlius justice, a position I have held since July 2021. From June 2022 through June 2022, I served as the associate justice for the village of Manlius. The insight and perspective I have gained during this together with Judge Greenman’s mentoring time will serve our community well going forward.
My dedication to the law, experience and integrity has, and will always guide me in my private practice and as village judge if I am elected to continue serving our wonderful community.
I have practiced law in our community for 28 years, advocating for clients in Federal Court, New York State Supreme Court and throughout various local municipal courts.
I approach every case pragmatically, with an open-mind and without any preconceived notions. I resolve cases fairly and ethically. I have received various peer-nominated recognitions for my professional skills and moral character.
I am a member of the New York State and Onondaga County Bar Associations.
I am a committed community volunteer, having served on various boards of not-for-profit organizations, including Make-A-Wish Central New York.
I hold a bachelor of arts degree from Brandeis University and a juris doctor from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law.
On a personal note, I have lived in the village of Manlius for almost 24 years together with my amazing wife and four great kids, all of whom have either graduated or are currently students in the F-M school district.
If elected, I will continue to be guided by the principle of “Justice, Justice Shall You Pursue.”
Tom Robertson
Democrat
My name is Tom Robertson, and I am a candidate for Manlius Village Justice. The reasons that I am best suited for the job and deserving of your vote are twofold. The first is relevant experience. Over 35 years of experience in the types of cases that most frequently come before the Manlius Village Court. I am a veteran of the Justice Court Circuit of Onondaga County, and all of New York State.
I am at home in the courtroom and have trial experience at all levels. This having tried many cases, both civil and criminal, at the Justice Court, County Court and Federal Court levels. My appellate experience includes the Appellate Division in Rochester, the (top New York court) Court of Appeals in Albany as well as the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan, just one step below the United States Supreme Court.
The second reason is more important yet. That is that I love the village of Manlius. Although I was raised in Rochester, NY and obtained my undergraduate degree in Buffalo. After a stint driving a truck for a drywall company, I came to the Syracuse College of Law in 1982.
By the mid-90’s I landed in Manlius, and I feel very grateful and blessed to be a member of this community. I truly believe that Manlius village is a fantastic place to learn and love and grow. There are tough issues to be handled and I know I have the strength and judgment to make the court work best for the village. I would be very honored and proud to serve this community and the village that I love.
