The Silverwood Clarinet Choir will present a concert at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at the Betts Branch Public Library, at 4862 S Salina St, Syracuse. The concert, which will feature musicians from Cazenovia, Manlius and Fayetteville, is free and made possible in part by a state grant secured by Senator John A. DeFrancisco.
Silverwood always presents a varied program of light to classical music. This concert will include jazz music by Stephen Foster and Scott Joplin, show tunes by George Gershwin, classical music by Georges Bizet and a piece composed for clarinet choir by Lucien Cailliet, rounded out with cultural music of Peru arranged for Silverwood by Marco Mazzini and marches. Popular arrangers and composers of the music presented are from the United States, Canada, Netherlands and Peru.
The Silverwood Clarinet Choir was founded in 2006 and is an exciting professional clarinet group that encompasses all the voices of a true choir. The choir consists of Eb sopranino clarinets, Bb clarinets, alto clarinet, basset horn, bass clarinets and contrabass clarinet. The creative group performs original compositions as well as arrangements of well-known pieces, music in all styles and from around the world. The ensemble plays music that is both entertaining and challenging throughout the Central New York area.
