Syracuse photographer Stephen Parker traveled to Cuba just months after President Obama relaxed the travel ban, and came home with photos that evoke the colorful lives of the people who live just 90 miles from the U.S. border. The result is Parker’s new photography show, “Bits and Pieces: Cuba and the Past,” which will be exhibited in the Cazenovia Artisans gallery for the entire month of May as part of the Visiting Artist Program.
Parker graduated from Chittenango High School and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SUNY Oswego. He taught photography to high school students at Fayetteville-Manlius for 38 years, taught at both Syracuse University and Cazenovia College, was Syracuse University’s sports photographer for 35 years and covered the US Olympics in Georgia. His photos have been published in USA Today, the New York Times and Sports Illustrated and local media outlets.
There will be an opening reception for Parker and his new show from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 5, at Cazenovia Artisans, 39 Albany St. See his incredible photos of Cuba with a chance to visit with him in person. Light refreshments will be served.
