Events that can help stoke the holiday spirits are filling the Liverpool Public Library calendar the next several weeks.
Lined up are programs designed to allow patrons to create art projects they associate with the seasons, think about the reasons why this time of year is so special, and socialize with others in the community who also want to celebrate. Some events are designed for children, others for adults.
Kids of all ages who appreciate crafts can join us for the DIY Holiday Gifts program from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, in the Carman Community Room. The timing will be right to create thoughtful presents for family and friends. Please register on the calendar page at LPL.org so children’s librarian and presenter Joellyn Murry will have an idea of how many supplies to bring.
From 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, families can come to the Carman Community Room to build a holiday ornament made from birdseed to bring home and place on an outside tree, to provide a treat for a feathered friend. There’s no need to register for the Birdseed Ornaments program.
The LPL will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but big two big events will help celebrate the reopening of the doors on Thursday, Dec. 26. That’s Boxing Day to our friends in Canada and the rest of the UK, and we’ll celebrate with a pair of Boxing Day Tea events.
From 11 a.m. to noon, children will get their chance to show off how they can dress up for the fancy occasion. There will be tea and juice, and games that will help everybody learn about Boxing Day traditions. From 3 to 4 p.m., adults get their chance for the royal get-together. Both parties will be in the Carman Community Room. If you don’t have a fascinator to wear, there will be a make-your-own station set up for the feathered headgear. Registration is required for both events on the calendar page at LPL.org.
On Friday, Dec. 27, attention turns to the holiday favorite treat, gingerbread. Gingerbread Story Time will spread legends from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Carman Community Room. Make Your Own Gingerbread House will show kids accompanied by an adult how to bake the favorites, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the CCR. That event is already sold out, with a waiting list.
