It’s the most wonderful time of the year: Towns and villages in the northern suburbs are getting ready to host their annual tree lightings, parades and holiday celebrations!
Here’s a list of upcoming celebrations:
Village of Baldwinsville
Saturday, Nov. 30
Holiday movie 1 to 3 p.m. at Baldwinsville Public Library Story Room; vendors and entertainment 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Baldwin Canal Square. Parade of Lights begins at 5:30 p.m. starting at Smokey Hollow Plaza and ending in Baldwin Canal Square with Santa’s arrival and tree lighting (see map, left). After-party at BPL with Santa, refreshments and crafts, and live music provided by the Baldwinsville Community Band immediately following the tree lighting. Village of Liverpool
Sunday, Dec. 1, Johnson Park
Enjoy horse and carriage rides 4 to 7 p.m. courtesy of Key Bank. Refreshments and live music (Harmonic Collective) start at 5:30. Santa Claus arrives by fire truck at 6 p.m. to light the tree. American Legion Post 188 is collecting nonperishable food; donation bins will be placed around the park.
Town of Clay
5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, Clay Town Hall, 4401 Route 31
Meet Santa and the Christmas Bee, taste honey from Sunshine Honeybee Farms and hot chocolate and cookies from Hope Cafe, and enjoy make-and-take crafts. Dan and Ron of Homeslice will provide music. Mattydale Community
6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, Salina Civic Center, 2826 Lemoyne Ave., Mattydale.
The Mattydale Community group is hosting its first tree lighting and Christmas party. Wear your pajamas, ugly sweaters, or holiday best! The Mattydale and Hinsdale fire departments and Santa Claus will be on hand. After the Tree Lighting, the party moves inside the Salina Civic Center. Join us for games, raffles, arts and crafts, face painting by 24K Salon, a cookie/recipe swap and more. The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office will provide safety IDs for kids. Town of Cicero
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, Cicero Fire Station 1, 8377 Brewerton Road
The Cicero Parks and Recreation Department and Cicero Fire Department are teaming up again this year to host the annual Town of Cicero Tree Lighting at Cicero Fire Station 1. Join us for the tree lighting and then inside for refreshments, games and pictures with Santa Claus. Those who plan on attending, we ask that you use the NORTH entrance and park in the rear of the new fire station.
Village of North Syracuse
5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8
All are invited to attend and participate in the village of North Syracuse’s 23rd Annual Holiday Parade/Celebration. The parade starts at 5 p.m. from The Gathering Place and proceeds down to the library, outside of the Community Center. There will be a tree lighting ceremony, visits and pictures with Santa, free horse and wagon rides along Centerville Place, free cocoa and doughnuts served inside the Community Center, and lots of free activities including face painting and crafts upstairs at the Community Center for the kids. The Syracuse Highland Pipe Band will be participating in the parade and performing. Those groups wanting to march or have a float in the parade are asked to register with the Parks Office by Dec. 3.
