The town of Van Buren is looking for groups of adults, ages 20 and older, to come out and try our new Knockerballs.
Knockerball is a safe and fun spin on traditional soccer. Players step inside our plastic transparent bubble bumper balls, which are designed to absorb shock and protect players as they have fun playing the game. Their feet are free so they can dazzle their friends without getting bumped!
It’s simple: rules are the same as traditional soccer. Players play three-on-three due to the size of the field. However, there are no goalies, so score as much as possible. (We can play with as many as five-on-five, if we have enough people).
We will have open play from 6 to 6:50 p.m. and 7 to 7:50 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday nights from July 12 to Aug. 11.
The cost is $32 per person for five nights of play. You will need to pick Tuesday or Thursday nights and a time period. You may also drop in one night and pay the $8 per night drop-in rate. Pre-registration is required, and forms are available from the parks department. All registration forms, for anyone under the age of 21, must be completed by a parent or guardian prior to taking the field.
Tennis lessons
Van Buren Park will host beginner tennis lessons for children 6 to 14 years of age. The lessons consist of six 45-minute sessions at the Van Buren Park tennis courts. Little or no tennis experience is necessary. Junior size rackets will be provided for those who need them.
Class will be held from 5 to 5:45 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Session I takes place July 18 to 29, and Session II takes place Aug. 8 to 19. The cost is $40 per person and each child needs to bring a can of balls.
Bricks 4 Kidz Mash-Up
Can’t pick just one of the dozens of fun and unique Bricks 4 Kidz themes to participate in? No problem, we’ve got you covered in our Bricks 4 Kidz Mash-Up camp. We will have kinds of building options from each of our most popular camps: Minecraft, Super Heroes, Minions, Pokemon, Angry Birds, Ninjas and more. Each day will be something new. Don’t miss this special camp offering. Each camper brings home a customized mini-figure they build from our Bricks 4 Kidz mini-figure factory.
The class will run from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Aug.1, through Friday, Aug. 5, at Van Buren Park. The cost is $106 per child.
Learn to swim
Session III and IV swim lessons will run from July 25 to Aug. 5 and Aug. 8 to 19. Morning and evening classes are available for beginner to more advanced swimmers. Information on levels, times and pricing can be found on the parks website.
