Summer playground program
The town of Van Buren will soon be registering for the summer playground programs. Information and pricing will be available at townofvanburen.com by the end of March or the beginning of April. Registration will begin Monday, April 18.
Boater safety course
A boater safety course will be held from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2, and Saturday, April 23, at the Van Buren Town Hall. This is a comprehensive, one-day boating safety class that provides an opportunity to learn from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. The course satisfies the pleasure boat training requirements for all states. Certified instructors of the Coast Guard Auxiliary provide professional instruction and answers to your boating questions.
The cost is $35 per person. The number of students in each class is limited. Advance registration is required. Upon successful completion certificates will be available at the end of class, no waiting, mailing, or extra fees. Successful participants will be offered an opportunity for advanced boat operation training.
Canvas art
Unleash your little Picassos with the town’s canvas art class, which runs from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at the Van Buren lodge.
It’s the perfect opportunity for you to create a unique work of canvas art! There is no experience needed — just your enthusiasm — as our instructor will walk you through the creation. All the supplies are provided; participants will paint one canvas.
The class is open to children age 5 and older. The cost of the class is $10 per child.
‘Wacky World of Sports’ registration
The town of Van Buren will be offering a day of a constant variety of wacky sports. Teams will experience the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. We will be introducing the area to human foosball, knockerball and reverse kickball. Teams will have a chance to win ultimate bragging rights and prizes!
Games will be held on Saturday, May 14, with a rain date of Sunday, May 15. For more information on games and registration pricing, please go to townofvanburen.com and follow the links to the parks and recreation page or call the Park office at 638-4727.
‘Survivor’ registration
Are you a big fan of “Survivor?” Our department has been diligently working on designing a fabulous day of “Survivor” Team Challenges on Saturday, June 11. This all-day event challenges teams to compete in activities that will test the mental, physical and leadership abilities of all involved. Teamwork will be put to the test to determine which tribe is the ultimate “Survivor.”
We will have endurance challenges, puzzle challenges, water balloon launching and more. And, of course, no survivor game is complete without the good old food challenge!
The cost is $150 for a team of six. We will be taking a maximum of eight teams (registration has already begun).
To register for these programs, contact the Van Buren parks and rec at 638-4727 or [email protected]. The Van Buren parks and recreation department is located at Van Buren Central Park, 7350 Canton St., Baldwinsville. The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
