West Genesee, Solvay bowlers get ready for sectional tournaments

Bearcats sweep Cortland, get split with Chittenango

CENTRAL NEW YORK – Bowling teams at Solvay and West Genesee are both on their way to Strike-N-Spare Lanes this Sunday to take part in the Section III team tournament.

Solvay, who is in Division II, added to its win total last Tuesday when, facing Cortland at Strike-N-Spare, defeated the Purple Tigers by a score of 5-2.

Again Justin Zimmerman led the way for the Bearcats opening with 217 and closing with 222 in his 626 series. Close behind, Tripp Sauer shot 233 and 219 games during his 587 series as Jacob Bigelow had a three-game total of 498.

Solvay’s girls blanked Cortland 7-0, with Zaileese Tarbell pacing her side shooting a 382 series just ahead of Jasmine Arroyo, who produced a 353 series.

Competing again on Wednesday Solvay split with Chittenango at Cazenovia Sports Bowl, winning 7-0 in the boys match over the Bears.

Zimmerman shot a second-game 257 in between 206 and 198 in his 661 series, while Marquez McNeil stepped up with a season-best 218 game in his 534 series and Bigelow had a 211 game in his 531 set. Solvay’s girls lost 7-0 as Tarbell’s 412 series trailed the 498 set from Chittenango’s Grace Tarby which included a 224 game.

Meanwhile, West Genesee faced Central Square at Lakeview Lanes and Lorelai Leskoske led the Wildcats, shooting games of 233 and 243 after an opening 191 to finish with a 667 series.

Alex Bigelow added a 539 series, with Jermaine Gautreaux earning a 481 set. But the Redhawks won 7-0 led by Owen Schlueter shooting a 707 series (258 high game) and Collin Edwards getting a 703 series with a high game of 254. All six of Central Square’s top bowlers had series of 555 or better.

WG bowled again Thursday against Fayetteville-Manlius at Green Lakes Lanes and lost, 5-2, but still saw Bigelow lead all individuals shooting a 626 series with games of 211, 203 and 212. Leskoske had a 205, 203 and 198 for a 606 set which also beat the Hornets’ best 590 series from Sean Bird.
