ONONDAGA COUNTY – Quick out of the gate for the 2024-25 season each of the Fayetteville-Manlius bowling teams each recorded victories in their opening matches.
Against Oswego last Tuesday at Green Lakes Lanes the girls Hornets won a 7-0 shutout over the Buccaneers led by Samantha Geiss and her three-game total of 485, with a top game of 180.
Andrea Aguilar-Miranda chimed in with a 464 series closing with a 193 game, the best of any F-M individual. Ashlynn Yonge’s 451 series included a 174 game as Lillian Squire posted a 430 series.
F-M’s boys, meanwhile, prevailed 5-2 over Oswego, with John Antczak shooting a third-game 243 to close out a 597 series to lead the Hornets. Sean Bird’s 579 series included games of 214 and 203, while Cole Cox had a steady 555 set as they all topped the 527 series from the Bucs’ Michael Kaye.
Christian Brothers Academy and Bishop Grimes met each other last Wednesday at Strike-N-Spare Lanes and the boys match was close, with the Cobras edging the Brothers 4-3.
CBA had a pinfall of 2,944 to Grimes’ 2,540, but the points still went to the Cobras as Zach Leto shot a 221 to open his 581 series helped by a 497 set from Tyler Mierek and 489 series from Victor Rizzo. CBA’s
Tom Dearnaley had a 243 and 214 during his 638 series and Jake Mason got a career-best 258 during his 588 series.
Elianna Occhino began her senior season for the CBA girls helping it blank Grimes 7-0 with games of 246 an 235 during a 657 series. Sophia Ciereck continued her improvement shooting 166, 188 and 174 during her 529 set.
East Syracuse Minoa had quite a showing from its boys team in its opener against Baldwinsville at Strike-N-Spare, even as the Spartans lost 5-2 to the Bees.
Five Spartans topped the 600 mark, led by Zach Kassel, who had 10 strikes in a 279 second game to go with games of 210 and 204 in a 693 series.
Alex Locke’s 235 game started out a 631 series, just ahead of the 628 set from Luke Liedka which had games of 215, 212 and 201. Ryan Dablock shot 201 and 214 in his 611 series and Joe Gardner opened with a 237 in his 606 set.
B’ville countered with three big series as Zenon Gasiorowski shot a three-game total of 703 with games of 255, 245 and 203. Wes Lell had a 660 series and high game of 235 as Scott Ritcey started with a 245 during his 650 set.
ESM’s girls got off to a tough start on the girls side with a 7-0 defeat to B’ville. Ruth Birmingham’s 438 series and Nicole Baker’s 424 series paced the Spartans, while the Bees got an opening 266 game from Lizzy Hildreth in her 654 series along with a 609 series from Samantha Hass.
