PHOENIX – Nearly two weeks after completing an undefeated regular season, the Christian Brothers Academy boys golf team demonstrated that all of the quality it showed through 15 head-to-head matches remained – and had grown.
The Brothers rolled to the championship in Thursday’s Onondaga High School League fall tournament at Beaver Meadows Golf Club in Phoenix, its score of 396 well clear of the 435 from runner-up Westhill and 447 from third-place Skaneateles.
Six of the top 10 individual finishers were CBA golfers, all of whom advanced to Monday’s sectional state qualifier, led by Luke Snyder, whose one-over-par 73 tied Westhill’s Danny Young for top individual honors.
Beaver Meadows provided a challenge to the entire field, playing longer than its 6,800 yards due to wet conditions, so it was little surprise that no player broke par for 18 holes. Still, the Brothers handled it well.
Patrick O’Connor, shooting a 76, was alone in third place. Dempsey Horan and Emmet Kilmartin tied for sixth, each posting 82, while Zach Cooper had an 83 to get eighth place and Michael Brown added an 84 to post ninth place.
