SYRACUSE – From a racing standpoint, the Baldwinsville girls swim team more than held its own in Monday night’s meet against Fayetteville-Manlius at Nottingham High School.
The Bees’ lack of a diving team was the difference, though, as it lost 87-84 to the Hornets in what proved to be its last meet of the 2024 regular season.
Twice, Olivia McManus won races, starting with the 200-yard individual medley where in two minutes 30.35 seconds McManus pulled away from the second-place 2:36.77 from F-M’s Emme Prendergast.
A few races later, McManus earned another comfortable victory, her 1:07.85 in the 100 butterfly well clear of the 1:12.49 put up by the Hornets’ Elise Wratney as Ella Mekker (1:14.61) was third.
Addie Atherton got to second in the 50 freestyle, her 27.95 seconds behind Kelly Liu’s 27.95 as Addison Grosso was fourth in 29.22. Atherton would add a third-place clocking of 1:19.02 in the 100 breaststroke.
In the 100 backstroke, Mekker was second in 1:09.26 and Grosso third going 1:12.24. Caydence Szkotak was third in the 200 freestyle in 2:15.85, a race won by Cato-Meridian swimmer Allison Kyle (2:10.22) who also beat the field in the 500 freestyle (5:52.14) as Szkotak finished in 5:58.72.
Aside from a last-chance meet next Friday, the Bees will focus on practice for a few weeks until it goes back to Nottingham Nov. 6 for the Section III Class A championships.
