CENTRAL NEW YORK – Three more victories in the penultimate week of the regular season pushed the East Syracuse Minoa girls soccer team’s overall record to 12-0-2.
At the no. 14 spot in last week’s state Class AA rankings the Spartans were dominant again in last Monday’s match against visiting Central Square, the 6-0 victory featuring yet another hat trick from Leah Rehm.
With three goals to go with an assist Rehm again led the attack. Khloe Welch chimed in with a goal and assist, with Leah Chavoustie and Ashley Praxl also finding the net and other assists going to Ayzlei Winans and Lilianna DiNatale.
Then ESM got to double digits in Thursday’s 10-1 romp over Auburn, Leah Rehm putting in four more goals to build her season total to 35 and adding an assist as Bailey Rehm got a goal and four assists.
Welch scored twice, with DiNatale, Praxl and Michaela Hurlbut also putting in goals. Winans was joined in the assist column by Morgan Palmer, Kyleight Smith and Harper DeJulio.
Saturday’s game with Section V’s Victor brought yet another impressive ESM performance and a 5-0 victory, with two goals apiece from Winans and Leah Rhem and another from Leah Chavoustie, with Bailey Rehm getting two assists and Ava Burry also getting an assist.
Still perched at no. 5 in the state in Class B, Christian Brothers Academy was quite eager for Tuesday night’s showdown against state no. 1-ranked Marcellus.
In the lead-up to that game CBA beat Cazenovia 5-0 last Tuesday night, meaning it had outscored the Lakers 11-0 in two head-to-head meetings this season.
The Brothers had Katherine Williamson and Emma Hill each notch one goal and one assist. The other goals went to Anisa Tavarez (her first of the season), Olivia Jones and Ciara Duggan, with Carleagh Morgia earning two assists.
A tougher test took place Thursday, CBA only tied with Hannibal/Cato-Meridian at halftime before scoring twice in the second half to prevail 3-1, the goals from Morgia, Duggan and Francesca Canzano as Williamson, Hill and Neveah Bacheyie earned the assists.
Neighbors battled on Friday night with Fayetteville-Manlius against Jamesville-DeWitt, and it was the Hornets getting the best of it, edging the Red Rams 1-0.
Neither team could get on the board until the second half when Una Vlasak, off a feed from Elyssa Barnhart, beat Lindsay Parker for the game’s only goal.
Parker stopped everything else and finished with eight saves, but J-D was mostly contained by F-M’s back line and held to five shots, all stopped by Mackenzie Murphy.
F-M came into the game with some momentum after edging Liverpool 2-1 on Oct. 5 in the Alzheimer’s Awareness game at Hornet Stadium. Barnhart scored one goal and assisted on the other, by Vlasak, and each of Murphy’s six saves proved important.
Before it played F-M, J-D met Fulton last Tuesday and, just like when the two teams met Sept. 18, the Red Rams could only manage a 1-1 draw with the Red Dragons.
It was Fulton gaining a 1-0 advantage before halftime and J-D needing to make the comeback, pulling even late and then going through 20 minutes of overtime without a resolution.
J-D did win a day later, topping Mexico 3-0. Led by Lilian Santoro’s goal and assist, the Rams were up 2-0 by halftime and added to it, Amelia Wormuth and Natalie Weismore getting the other goals and Madelyn Murphy getting an assist.
Bishop Grimes was back in action last Wednesday against Tully, who prevailed 4-0 with two goals in each half and four different goa-scorers as Gabrielle Flatt fed all of them with her three assists.
Manlius Pebble Hill lost 7-0 to Bishop Ludden last Monday night. Trojans goalie Bailey Stewart had eight saves as Ashley Pawelczyk’s three goals and one assist paced the Gaelic Knights.
Down at halftime to Onondaga/LaFayette two days later, MPH was able to get a late tally and salvage a 1-1 draw.
