SYRACUSE – No less than five area high school indoor track and field teams were part of last Saturday’s morning session of the George Constantino Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena, with West Genesee and Marcellus setting the pace.
The boys Mustangs and girls Wildcats each had third-place team finishes behind Baldiwnsville and Liverpool, while Skaneateles grabbed seventh place in the boys meet and points were earned by Jordan-Elbridge and Bishop Ludden, too.
In large part, Skaneateles’ points again came from Will Feeney, who won the boys shot put with a toss of 46 feet 8 ¼ inches and then unleashed a weight throw of 57’7”, nearly 10 feet ahead of the 47’9” from Marcellus’ Cameron Sadler in second place.
As if that wasn’t enough, the Lakers’ Mara Stanton won the girls weight throw with a heave of 40’8”. The Mustangs’ Tessy Huntley was third in the weight throw with 33’9”, a personal best.
The WG boys saw Michael Gomes prevail in the 1.600-meter run, his time of four minutes, 34.93 seconds more than four seconds ahead of B’ville’s Ryan Wilson (4:39.40).
Elsewhere, in the 4×400 relay the Wildcats had Will Fettig, James Mungro, Zach Hann and Rhison Williams win in 3:38.17 over the 3:41.12 from Marcellus’ Xander Szalach, Joe Striffler, Andrew McCaffrey and Liam Eldridge.
Dillan Holzwarth, who with Gomes earned a third-place time of 9:09.55 in the 4×800 relay, got fifth in the 1,000-meter run, while Anthony Edgar went 19’4” in the long jump for fourth place. Williams was seventh in the 55-meter dash.
Owen Alexander went 8.50 seconds for third in the 55-meter hurdles to beat Edgar (fifth) and Zyaire Davidson (sixth). Striffler got third in the 300-meter dash in 39.11, with Szalach fifth in 39.44 to go with his third-place high jump of 5’8”, a new personal mark.
Cameron Sadler was third in the shot put, heaving it 42’3 1/4” as J-E’s Ronan Ross was fifth with 41’4 3/4”. Eldrige finished fourth in the 1,600 (4:52.62) behind Gomes, while Robbie Hakes was sixth in the 3,200-meter run.
Cody Crane had the best track finish for Skaneateles, a fourth in the 600-meter run in a personal-best 1:31.18 as J-E’s Alex Kunz finished fifth in 1:31.96. Ryan McCrone gave the Lakers a third-place pole vault of 9’6”, a new personal best.
Moving to the girls event, WG’s Chloe Feitze was part of a Wildcats sweep in the 1,000-meter run, her 3:09.19 beating a field that included teammates Zoe Maupin in third (3:20.54) and Rebecca Dickey in fourth (3:21.51).
To close out the meet in the 4×200, the Wildcats’ quartet of Jessica Marshfield, Chelsea Donaldson, Sophia Barba and Molly Doran won in 1:53.52, with Marcellus second in 1:39.02 and Skaneateles rising to fourth place in 2:00.62.
WG also had Erin Fortune take third at 1,500 meters in 5:26.64 and Shannon McMahon finish sixth, while Thalia Petrie was fourth in the 3,000-meter run as the Wildcats were third in the 4×400 relay in 4:30.22 and third in the 4×800 in 11:04.73. Doran took seventh in the 55 sprint, Grace McInerney was fifth in the long jump.and Amelia Jennings was seventh in the shot put and
It was Marcellus winning the girls 4×400 as the quartet of Corrine Aldrich, Sophia Bianchi, Madison Foy and Emmi Rossiter went 4:24.09, easily topping the 4:29.14 from runner-up B’ville, Aldrich was seventh and Bianchi eighth in the 300.
Ludden’s Lexi Sheen contended in the 55 hurdles, making it to third place in a personal-best 9.99 seconds as Marcellus’ Madison Foy (10.33) was sixth and WG’s Mikenna Komuda was seventh. J-E’s Teagan Disinger had a fourth-place long jump of 13’9 1/4”.
