OSWEGO – Led by another strong performance by Mikey White, the Baldwinsville boys swim team made it two wins in as many meets when it went to Oswego Tuesday night and held off the Buccaneers 88-82.
In the first individual race of the meet, the 200-yard freestyle, White went one minute, 46.83 seconds, already beating the standard of 1:47.60 needed to qualify for March’s state championship meet at Ithaca College.
Also, White was victorious in the 100 butterfly in exactly 55 seconds, beating Matt Lange’s 58.03, though Lange would return later to win the 100 backstroke in
Lucas Clay almost did the same in the 200 individual medley, his 2:01.22 less than a second from the state qualifying standard of 2:00.63. Later, in the 500 freestyle, Clay prevailed in 5:09.07, with Marco VanCour third in 5:51.38. Claiming the 200 freestyle relay, Lange, White, Clay and Mason Stever went a quick 1:33.32.
The Bees started accumulating points by getting the second, third and fourth spots in the opening 200-yard medley relay, with Lucas Clasy, Mason Stever, Jayden Miranda and Cole Dwyer going 1:53.62 just behind the Bucs’ 1:52.76.
Stever would beat the field in the 100 freestyle, going 55.09 as Danny Sima (58.23) was third. also finished second in the 50 freestyle in 24.29 seconds, with Miranda third in 25.95 to go with a third (1:04.62) in the 100 backstroke.
Cole Dwyer was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.97, edging out Ethan Gramiak (1:17.46) in third and Adrien Clay (1:18.83) in fourth, but those points clinched B’ville’s team win before White, Lange, VanCour and Sima won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:41.54.
Now a pair of big home meets await the Bees, who take on Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA next Tuesday before a Dec. 19 clash with Fayetteville-Manlius.
