CENTRAL NEW YORK – The Christian Brothers Academy girls soccer team, no. 15 in the state Class B poll thanks to its 5-2 start, would play three times last week and go 1-1-1.
challenged state no. 9-ranked Marcellus last Monday night and, in a possible post-season preview, lost 1-0 to the Mustangs.
Controlling the game’s tempo most of the way, the Mustangs drew a free kick in the 34th minute. Marielle Kennedy hit it on the turf and, timing the bounce well, Corinne Aldrich redirected the ball past CBA goalkeeper Cara Macaluso.
For the rest of the game, Macaluso kept everything out, but didn’t get much help, the Brothers only able to muster three shots on Olivia Smolen, all of them turned away.
In Wednesday’s 6-1 victory over Hannibal/Cato-Meridian, CBA leaned heavily on Katherine Williamson, who set a career mark with four goals, helped by single tallies from Lauren Zollo and Emma Hill. Meryl Murphy picked up a pair of assists.
Against reigning sectional Class D champion Cincinnatus on Friday night, CBA ended up in a 0-0 draw, unable to get any of its seven shots past Lions goalie Payton Landers as Macaluso got six saves.
Quiet most of the week, Jamesville-DeWitt put up a great fight against Westhill on Saturday afternoon before it lost, 1-0, to the Warriors.
Kept in its end most of the way, the Red Rams only hung in there thanks to 15 saves from goalie Lindsay Parker. All that she allowed was a decisive goal to Westhill senior Hannah Goodness.
Manlius Pebble Hill took a 6-0 defeat to Tully last Tuesday as Gabrielle Flatt’s three-goal hat trick led the Black Knights. Busy all day in the net, Trojans goalie Mira Fadda-Conrey made 18 saves.
Then, facing unbeaten Bishop Ludden on Thursday, MPH lost 5-0 to the Gaelic Knights. Fadd-Conrey had 18 saves as Ludden star Ashley Pawelczyk earned two goals and two assists. A 6-0 loss to Syracuse United followed on Saturday.
Bishop Grimes lost 2-0 to Altmar-Parish-Williamstown, with goalies Olivia Bitz and Bailee Halsey combining for eight saves as the Rebels got decisive goals from Katie Schick and Bella Scott.
A 1-0 loss to Pulaski followed on Thursday, Lily Hunter netting the game’s only goal for the Blue Devils in the first half, but the Cobras broke its skid on Saturday, topping Onondaga/LaFayette 3-1.
Bailee Halsey’s pair of goals paced Grimes, with help from Adrianna Scollo, who had the other goal, and Angelina Delledara, who picked up an assist.
