BALDWINSVILLE – Again it proved true that no one would catch the Baldwinsville boys track and field team when Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division sides gathered Thursday for the league meet at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium.
The Bees finished with 172 points, while Cicero-North Syracuse (103) edged West Genesee (98) for second place. And the B’ville girls would have a strong meet at home, too, getting 103.33 points to get third place behind C-NS and Liverpool.
Solomon Holden-Betts led the way with victories in three different distance races, capped by a 3,000-meter steeplechase where, in nine minutes, 24.48 seconds, beat the field by more than a minute, Keagan Hayes taking third in 10:46.15.
Earlier in the meet, Holden-Betts ran 1,600 meters in 4:21.41 to beat out WG’s Peter McMahon (4:25.52) as Noah Covert made his way to third place in 4:27.83. Then Holden-Betts won the 800-meter run in 1:57.69 over F-M’s Nolan McGinn (1:58.50), with Jeff Ragonese third in 2:00.10.
In the 4×800 relay, Ragonese, Logan Hayes, Jack McAllister, Jeff Ragonese and Paul Clark prevailed in 8:03.66, a strong time that was needed since Fayetteville-Manlius (8:05.16) was a close second.
From there, McAllister would take the 400-meter dash in 50.18 seconds, edging Hayes, who was second in 50.28, and in the 4×400 relay Hayes and McAllister, joined by Evan Smith and Zach Arria, pulled away to win in 3:25.93.
To win the pole vault, Kyle Sheckler had to clear 11 feet 9 inches to beat out the 11’6″ from C-NS’s Dan Henry, Owen Johnson getting fourth place by topping 10 feet.
