CHITTENAGO – Most of the area’s high school track and field teams would be well-represented during last Saturday’s Chittenango Invitational, with East Syracuse Minoa, Fayetteville-Manlius and Jamesville-DeWitt at the forefront.
In fact, the ESM girls finished second with 52.5 points, trailing only Cicero-North Syracuse’s total of 60.5 as F-M settled for eighth place, while the J-D boys were second with 46 points and F-M fifth with 50 points, again with C-NS on top.
Evanni McDuffie set the tone for the Spartans beating a top field to win the 100-meter dash in 12.62 seconds to the 12.73 from Central Square’s Alyssa Costello.
Later, in the 4×100 relay, McDuffie, Anaharie Anderson, Kaleigh Maloof and Akuot Kuany would go 51.02 seconds as no one else broke the 52-second mark.
Kuany would clear 5 feet 2 inches in the high jump, winning over the 5’1” from teammate Ariana Brennen as Anderson was sixth in the 400 hurdles and Elise Mancini sixth in the pole vault.
Margaret Mading, who was seventh in the long jump, went 34’1 1/2” for second place in the triple jump, one inch behind the 34’2 1/2” from West Canada’s Hallie Fehlhaber. Rachael Ladd was fourth in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 8:04 flat.
For the F-M girls, Izzie Sullivan was victorious in the Fleet Feet Mile. In 5:06.44, Sullivan pulled away from the field by more than eight seconds as teammate Maria Khalifeh was fifth in 5:16.80. The Hornets finished fourth in the 4×400.
Victoria Payne was second for J-D in the 100 hurdles in 15.79 seconds to the 15.44 for C-NS’s Kalli Congden, also getting fifth in the 400 sprint in 1:03.45.
Hailey Webber threw the shot put 35’10”, second to the 37’1 1/2” from Liverpool’s Allie Cary, and Webber took third in the discus with 96’2” as F-M’s Maddie Kirkpatrick was fifth with 87’2”.
J-D had a win in the boys 800 when Hudson Groat, in 2:00.29, edged the 2:00.84 from F-M’s Mason Weires Connor Clarkson gained second place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:22.23 and the Rams were second in the 4×400 in 3:36.49, just behind C-NS’s 3:35.94 as F-M got fifth in 3:45.78.
Andres Valladares was third in the 400 sprint in 52.92 seconds as Daksh Maini get fourth place in the 110 hurdles in 17.41 seconds. Shane Gargiulo (1:01.43) beat out Braydon Johnson (1:01.74) for fourth in the 400 hurdles.
F-M’s Nolan McGinn was second in the boys Fleet Feet Mile for F-M, nearly winning it as his 4:20.56 was barely half a second behind the 4:20.04 from Pulaski’s Luke Tighe.
Denim Hall cleared 5’8” for third place in the high jump as Valladares (5’6”) was fourth, with Dan Kenny fourth in the shot put, heaving it 42’1 1/2”, and Jackson Burton third in the triple jump with 40’6”. Cooper Dereszynski made his way to fourth place in the boys pentathlon with 2,636 points.
Christian Brothers Academy chimed in when Darien Williams finished second in the 100-meter dash in 11.21 seconds and helpedCameron Smith,Quinten Lewis and Daunte Bacheyie take second in the 4×100 relay in 45.40. F-M was sixth.
Before this, F-M took on Baldwinsville and Henninger last Wednesday afternoon, splitting both meets as the boys beat the Black Knights but lost 81.5-41 to the Bees.
In the girls meet, Sullivan ran 1,500 meters in 4:57.50 and took the 3,000 in 10:37.36, wihle Khalifeh was first in the 800 in 2:27.68.
But B’ville swept the top spots in sprints and most field events, only yielding when Kirkpatrick swept the throws, heaving the shot put 28’3 1/2” and the discus 79’3”.
F-M’s boys lost to first-place B’ville, but still had success on the oval led by sprinter Nikita Domashenko, who tore to a time of 11.74 seconds in the 100 and also won the 200 in 23.82.
McGinn beat the field in the 1,600 in a quick 4:33.66, while Dereszynski took the 400 hurdles in 1:00.08 and Wieres went 2:00.90 in the 800. Alex Martinez broke 10 minutes in the 3,200, prevailing in 9:56.70.
