ONONDAGA COUNTY – Building more momentum as the temperatures warmed back up, the Cicero-North Syracuse boys tennis team had an impressive follow-up to its April 13 win over Liverpool.
Exactly one week later, the Northstars were nearly perfect in singles against West Genesee and also did not drop a set in doubles during a 7-0 shutout of the Wildcats.
Wyatt Dupell and Brady Petranchuk put together 6-0, 6-0 singles wins over, respectively, Willard Young and Ty’San Scott, with Brandon Nguyen dropping a single game as he beat Dan Alvaro 6-1, 6-0.
The closest of the four doubles matches had Ryan Kiel and Matt Jordan pushed in the second set, but still beating Joe Paoli and Noah Ruston 6-1, 7-5.
Peter Gill and Andrew George won 6-2, 6-2 over Josh Pierce and Nathan Smith, with Tim Mai and Joe DeGroat handling Jacob Dalton and Jon Dehm 6-1, 6-0 as Mike DeGroat and Alex Cao ripped Jonah Hanlon and John McCann in a 6-0, 6-1 decision.
Making it back-to-back wins, CNS took on Auburn Friday and handled the Maroons 5-2, based mostly on another singles sweep.
It started with Dupell routing Brody Wagner 6-1, 6-1, continued with Petranchuk’s 6-2, 6-0 win over Colby Wagner and was capped when Nguyen handled Bill Li 6-0, 6-1.
Gill and George lost, 7-5, 7-5, to Tom Denning and Charles Tracy, with Jordan and Kiel also losing in two sets. But Cao and Mike DeGroat shut out Mike Wellauer and John White 6-0, 6-0 as, in two sets, Mai and Joe DeGroat worked past Braden Sherman and Kyle Green 6-1, 6-2.
