LYSANDER – All is now in place for the ice hockey game Tuesday night in Lysander that might determine regular-season honors in Section III Division I and set the playoff order, too.
Baldwinsville, at 13-1 and sporting a 12-game win streak, hosts West Genesee, who was 14-2 but had not lost a league game and had given the Bees its lone defeat back on Nov. 30 at Shove Park.
Neither team stumbled in the long lead-up to this game, with the Wildcats handling Rome Free Academy and Auburn this week as the Bees took the ice hursday against visiting Liverpool and put together a 5-1 victory over the Warriors.
Despite a 3-11-1 record going into the game, Liverpool kept B’ville off the board in the first period, largely due to the work in goal by James Welch.
All told, Welch would make 42 saves, but the Bees would start to solve him in the second period, a trio of goals producing a 3-0 advantage.
Two more goals followed in the third as, once again, B’ville’s production spread out. Five different players – Brayden Penafeather-Stevenson, Garrett Sutton, Mitch Burlingame, Nick Cary and Drew Flynn – earned those five goals.
Jamie Gipe chimed in with two goals. Single assists went to Kaleb Deluca, Brady Garcia and Zach Treichler as the Warriors only managed a third-period goal by Evan Haskins.
After the showdown with West Genesee, B’ville would face Mohawk Valley Wednesday before meeting Syracuse and Ithaca during the final week of the regular season.
