CHITTENANGO – After waiting for most of April to hit its full competitive stride, the Baldwinsville boys track and field team would emerge as one of the top sides during Saturday’s Chittenango Invitational.
Finishing with 64 points, the Bees were a close second, seeing Jamesville-DeWitt earn 67.5 points for the top spot as Fayetteville-Manlius was third with 60 points.
Right to the end, the Bees were in the mix for top team honors, starting with Brandon Levin beating the field in the 100-meter dash, his time of 11.58 seconds beating, among others, teammate Robert Thompson, who was third in 11.74.
Thompson got a victory of his own in the long jump, going 20 feet 2 ½ inches to edge the 20′ 1/2” from Camden’s Jack Phelan as Owen Weaver was fourth with 19’10 1/4/
In the featured Fleet Feet Mile, Solomon Holden-Betts nearly won it, his time of 4:23.27 beating everyone except Beaver River standout Colton Kempney, who won in 4:18.76.
Tyler Rawlins, in the five-event pentathlon, made his way to fourth place with 2,401 points. Pat Pasho’s shot put toss of 43’6” was toppled only by the 47’5” from Auburn’s Dustin Starwood.
Weaver took third place in the 400-meter dash in 51.97 seconds. Gibson Boudov was fourth in the discus, throwing it 112’10” as Dan Ewald got sixth place with 111 feet. Logan Zapf took sixth in the 110 high hurdles in 17.54 seconds, to go with a sixth-place triple jump of 37’11”.
Noah Covert took eighth in the 800-meter run in 2:09.29 as Jacob Guelli was ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplchase in 11:49.34. The Bees were sixth in the 4×400 relay in 3:51.80 and 10th in the 4×800.
On the girls side for B’ville, Lauren Letourneau had the best finish, taking third in the high jump by clearing 4;10” as Sydney McKenney grabbed fourth place in the 100 hurdles in 17.68 seconds. Kamryn Barton was sixth in the 800 in 2:29.90.
This was the first of three events in seven days for B’ville, who faces Henninger and Nottingham on Wednesday and then, on Friday, battles Cicero-North Syracuse and Corcoran at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium.
