CENTRAL NEW YORK – This was the week where most of the area’s high school track and field teams were set to enter league competition.
And that included Fayetteville-Manlius, who swept both sides of a three-team meet with Henninger and Corcoran before it faced tougher SCAC Metro division opponents.
On the girls side for the Hornets, Natalee Barber won three events, taking the 100-meter dash in 13.5 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 28.2 seconds while also recording a top long jump of 15 feet 8 ½ inches.
Hannah Kaercher ran the 400-meter dash in 1:03.1 and took the 800-meter run in 2:20 flat as Isabelle Sullivan won at 1,500 meters in 4:45.0. Madison Kirkpatrick swept the discus (64’4”) and shot put (26’11”) as Brigid Teaken took the 100 hurdles in 18.0 seconds.
Meanwhile, in the boys meet F-M had Connor Ball go 16.6 seconds in the 110 hurdles and unleash a top long jump of 18’6 3/4’” as Will Seamans ran the 800 in 2:06.3 and the 1,600 in 4:37.2.
Anthony Otis was first in the 3,200-meter run in 10:12.3 and helped the Hornets’ 4×800 team prevail in 9:30.4 as F-M also took the 4×100 in 47.3 seconds and the 4×400 in 3:43.9.
Denim Hall cleared 6 feet in the high jump, while Carson Pullano had a first-place discus throw of 86’6”. Vincent Hunt went 54.9 seconds to top the field in the 400 sprint.
Jamesville-DeWitt met Auburn and Oswego that same day. While sweeping the Maroons, the Red Rams only had a split with the Buccaneers, prevailing 103-38 on the boys side but losing the girls meet 70-62.
In the boys meet, J-D’s Caleb Smith cleared 5’8” in the high jump and took the 100 sprint in 11.3 seconds, while Nick Dekaney tore to a time of 14.7 seconds in the 110 high hurdles. Sam Smith went 53.8 seconds in the 400 sprint and Alex Martinez ran the 3,200 in 10:26.0.
East Syracuse Minoa battled last Monday afternoon against PSLA-Fowler and Cortland. On the boys side, Michael Parks put up a top long jump of 19’2”, cleared 5’6” in the high jump and prevailed in the 110 hurdles in 14.7 seconds.
Rocky El, for his part, tore to first place in the 100-meter dash in 11.3 seconds. Abdirasid Aden went 56.6 seconds in the 400-meter dash as Luke Mancini topped 7’6” in the pole vault and Sol Scofield had a triple jump of 33’9”.
Meanwhile, in the girls meet ESM had Rachael Ladd run 1,500 meters in 5:45.6 as Amber Hayes took the 400 hurdles in 1:20.1 and Akuot Kuany won the 100 hurdles in 16.7 seconds.
Elena Vespi ran the 800 in 2:47.9 as, in field events, Kuany cleared 4’10” in the high jump, Sophia Jackson threw the shot put 73’9” and Margaret Mading had a 30-foot triple jump. Aryanna Finkelstein threw the shot put 29’3”
As F-M competed on Wednesday, Christian Brothers Academy faced Marcellus, with the boys taking a 106-39 defeat and the girls a 92-39 loss to the Mustangs.
The boys meet included race wins by the Brothers’ Dorien Williams in the 200 in 23.8 seconds, Chris Zajdel in the 800 in 2:14.9 and Cooper Grant in the 400 in 52.8 seconds. Peter McCaffrey led Marcellus with a sweep of the long jump, triple jump and high jump.
CBA’s girls team had Grace Fletcher and Bella Cannizzo each win two races, Fletcher going 13.2 seconds in the 100 and 23.0 seconds in the 200 as Cannizzo won the 800 in 2:38.5 and the 400 in 1:07 flat. Mary Sullivan was first in the 3,000 in 12:04.7.
