CENTRAL NEW YORK – Having split its first two matches of the season before the April school break, the Cazenovia boys tennis team climbed above the .500 mark just before the snow interrupted everything again.
The Lakers’ 5-0 shutout of Pulaski last Monday included three singles matches which ended in 6-0, 6-0 decisions.
In order, Traian Cherciu handled Brian Pond in first singles, with Garret Lounsbury roaring past Garrett Starbird and, in third singles, Jake Wardell handled Myer Butler.
Only in doubles did Cazenovia surrender a game – and here Carter Ruddy and Cy Lurie won 6-0, 6-1 over Caiden Potter and Austin Dufrane. Andrew Falso and Ford Brown handled Logan Trump and Colton Dufrane 6-0, 6-0.
Cazenovia again did not surrender a point in Friday’s 5-0 win over Lafayette, seeing Cherciu, Lounsbury and Wardell each win their singles matches without dropping a game. Falso and Gabe Reagan topped Devin Harris and Mark Humphrey 6-1, 6-1, with Lurie and Ruddy winning 6-0, 6-1 over Alex Bush and Scott Heath.
Chittenango was seeking its first win of the season, and earned it last Wednesday against Mexico, claiming both doubles points to defeat the Tigers 3-2.
Artie Paul and Jake Simmons handled Billy Mills and James Hogan 6-2, 6-0, with Dylan Bassett and Seth Boulter just as impressive in defeating Allen Scott and Joe Boulais 6-1, 6-1.
Up in singles, Josh Boulter and Micah Alperuto took defeats, with Alperuto falling 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) to Johannes Burkhart. But Logan Bronner, pushed to a third set by Owen Marsden, earned the clinching points for the Bears, prevailing 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
