CENTRAL NEW YORK – A string of early-week high school boys lacrosse games fell victim to the winter snowstorm that forced a long wait for all the turf fields to get cleared.
Once that ended, games resumed on Thursday, with area teams taking some setbacks, including Skaneateles, who was upended by Homer in a 12-4 defeat.
Going into the game with a 5-2 record, the Lakers saw the Trojans take control in the second quarter with four unanswered goals that broke a 2-2 tie.
Skaneatlees had a difficult time getting shots past Homer goalie Ben Bradshaw, who recorded 11 saves. Sean Kerwick scored twice and assisted on goals by Colin Morrissey and Charlie Carbonaro. Hunter Riehlman and Reid Partis led Homer with three goals apiece.
Two days later, at Rome Free Academy, the Lakers got back in the win column, handling the Black Knights 11-2 with Morrissey getting three goals and two assists to lead the charge.
Ethan Hunt and Jeff McCrone both scored twice, Hunt adding two assists. Kerwick got three assists, with single goals earned by Jack Weeks, Curran McGowan, Jack Torrey and Charlie Carbonaro. Between them, goalies Luke Renaud and Luke Logan stopped nine of the 11 RFA shots they faced.
Marcellus, who like Westhill had a key mid-season clash with Cazenovia moved to next week, met Cicero-North Syracuse last Friday in a non-league game and lost, 12-5, to the Northstars.
Doryn LeClair had a goal and three assists. Chris Doshna, Donovan Fraher, Brady Hubbard and Marcus Darminio also found the net, but no Mustang player scored twice as C-NS got five goals from Ian Leahey, with Mason Blakeman getting two goals and four assists.
Jordan-Elbridge met Chittenango for the second time in as many weeks, and nearly got even for that earlier 19-14 defeat on April 12, only to see it comeback fall short in a 14-13 loss to the Bears.
Chittenango jumped out 7-2 in the first quarter and then would match everything J-E threw at them over the next two periods, with Conner Meeks-Vaughn and Brendon Barnard each netting four goals.
Fighting back, the Eagles, trailing 13-9, nearly caught up in the final minutes, Wade Brunelle and Nixon Karcz each getting three-goal hat tricks as Brunelle added three assists.
Still, the Bears held on, negating Austin Brunelle’s 15 saves. Wyatt Werth and Joe LaFleur both scored twice, with Nazier Kinsey, Bryan Tanner and Nick Long each earning one goal and one assist.
J-E did win on Saturday, outscoring Thousand Islands 19-15 as Karcz set a career mark with six goals and Brunelle managed five goals. Werth had three goals and one assist, with LaFleur getting two goals and two assists. Tanner helped out with a goal and four assists.
