LIVERPOOL – Competing one more time together at its home venue, the Liverpool girls bowling team put together a proud and strong effort to finish second at Sunday’s Section III Division I tournament.
The Warriors did its best during the afternoon session at Flamingo Bowl, with the trio of Makenzi Ormsby, Ashley Hardy and Mackenzie Gill each putting up big scores as it overtook Fulton and Rome Free Academy to rise up the standings.
Only a dominant effort from undefeated SCAC Metro division champion Baldwinsville kept Liverpool from the top spot. The Bees led from start to finish and, with a pinfall of 5,650, were 352 pins ahead of the Warriors’ total of 5,298.
All through the morning session, Liverpool struggled to find its rhythm, with games of 814 and 884 before dropping to a 744 in the third, but something seemed to turn around after the break.
A fifth-game 929 was the best of any team, but that only served as a tune-up for the fifth game, the Warriors roaring to a 1,043, the best of anyone all day with the exception of B’ville’s 1,054 in the third game.
During that game, Ormsby put up a 257 and Gill, with a 248, was close behind, with Yilena Russell adding a 191, her best of the day, and Isabelle McSally stepping up to shoot a 188.
Liverpool then closed with an 884 to clinch second, 157 pins ahead of Fulton as, individually, Ormsby, Hardy and Gill all finished in the top six.
Ormsby, who also posted games of 232, 206 and 201, closed with a 199 as her 1,265 aggregate trailed only CBA’s Elianna Occhino (1,285) and Fulton’s Alexis Ingersoll (1,273). Hardy opened with 219 and 236 on her way to a fifth-place aggregate of 1,185 as Gill’s sixth-place 1,176 was buoyed by an afternoon where her 248 came in between games of 237 and 212.
Cicero-North Syracuse finished fifth in the Division I sectional standings with a total pinfall of 4,457, led largely by Kathryn Artz, who finished 10th among individuals.
Shooting a 221 in her morning session and closing strong with a 240, Artz produced a six-game total of 1,129, while Northstars teammate Brianna Mabee opened with a 192 on her way to 24th place at 1,006.
