CENTRAL NEW YORK – At least for this winter, the quality of the Liverpool boys swim team was eclipsed by some of its league rivals.
And no one did better than Jamesville-DeWitt/Christian Brothers Academy, who completed an 11-0 regular season by topping the Warriors 95-84 Tuesday night.
Liverpool’s lone individual title came in the 200-yard individual medley, where Jack Cavallerano went two minutes, 14.10 seconds to beat out the 2:17.81 from the Red Rams’ Bobby Diel.
Cavallerano also swam the 100 freestyle in 52.25 seconds, edged out by Mark Bratslavsky’s 52.11, and paired with Geoff Race, Nate Alexander and Sean O’Neil to post a quick time of 3:44.64 in the 400 freestyle relay.
A close 200 freestyle relay had Cavallerano, Alexander, Race and Solomon Panayil go 1:39.76, just behind J-D/CBA’s 1:38.69.
Individually, Alexander swam the 200 freestyle in 1:57.40, close behind Lesha Kabunov’s 1:57.03, while also finishing second in the 500 freestyle in 5:28.62 as Race took second in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.10.
J-D/CBA saw Misha Kabunov tear through the 500 freestyle in 4:59.03, while Nathaniel Wales went 55.59 seconds in the 100 backstroke after he topped the field in the 50 freestyle in 22.98.
A day later, Cicero-North Syracuse went to Auburn and, in one of its last regular-season meets of the winter, produced a 71-52 victory over the Maroons to improve its record to 4-6.
Caden Griffin offered a highlight for the Northstars when he swam the 100 freestyle in 53.76 seconds to edge Auburn’s Riley Fitzgerald (53.97) as Jacob Griffin was victorious in the 200 individual medley in 2:13.48.
Aside from taking the 200 freestyle in 2:10.91 and swimming the 100 backsroke in 1:02.07, Noah Ritchie helped Connor Burke, Anthony Gabrielli and Jacob Griffin go 1:56.24 in the 200 medley relay as they also swam the 200 freestyle relay in 1:42.73.
Reece Balduzzi, in 1:16.25, beat out Caden Griffin (1:19.24) in the 100 breaststroke, with Burke and Gabrielli finishing in a dead heat of 25.87 seconds in the 50 freestyle behind Mike Villano’s 25.77 for the Maroons.
