CENTRAL NEW YORK – Continuing its busy late-season stretch, the West Genesee boys swim team met up with New Hartford last Tuesday night and took an 89-82 defeat to the Spartans.
The Wildcats did dominate the diving competition, seeing Ethan Martin pick up 211.75 points to hold off teammate Bryan Reichert, who had 206.57 points.
But New Hartford bested WG in every swimming race, including a close 200-yard freestyle where Angus Tarolli went two minutes, 9.66 seconds, but the Spartans’ Sheldon Holmes won in 2:09 flat.
Tom Parisi got second in the 50 freestyle with 25.16 seconds as Hassan Mousad (24.07) prevailed for New Hartford. Jack Kilroy, in 1:18.50, had the second-quickest time in the 100 breaststroke to the 1:11.23 from Troy Luley, who also prevailed in the 500 freestyle for the Spartans.
Parisi, Kilroy, Reichert and Ryan Goshow swam the 200 freestyle relay in 1:47.95 before a 400 freestyle relay where Matt Keiling joined Parisi, Tarolli and Goshow to go 3:59.33, well behind a quick 3:33.64 from New Hartford.
Against Weedsport on Friday, WG was tied going into the final race, only to have the Warriors pull it out 96-90.
Tarolli, Parisi, Keiling and Goshow had a strong showing in the 400 freestyle relay, finishing in 3:49.36, but Weedsport was just ahead in 3:47.94 and also got a third-place finish for the clinching points.
Prior to that, Goshow had won the 200 individual medley in 2:29.76 and finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:44.80), while Parisi claimed the 50 freestyle in 25.54 seconds to go with a second (56.88) in the 100 freestyle.
Reichert earned 248.10 points in diving, just ahead of Weedsport’s Christina Jackson (242.00) as Martin was third with 208.85. In the 200 medley relay, Parisi, Tarolli, Goshow and Kilroy prevailed in 1:58.88.
Kilroy also took second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.27, just behind the Warriors’ Samantha Whitman (1:15.43) as Tarolli was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:07.30 and Burilngame got second in the 100 backstroke in 1:14.58 ahead of Aiden Lounsberry’s 1:18.42.
Tuesday’s meet at Fulton closes WG’s regular season, with the Section III championships at Nottingham to follow two weeks later.
