ONONDAGA COUNTY – Plenty of matches were scheduled for the Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool bowling teams leading up to the holiday break and the end of 2021.
None were more important, though, than their first head-to-head showdown, which took place on Dec. 14 at Flamingo Bowl.
On the boys side, the Northstars shut out the Warriors 3-0, led by Nehemiah Bachman, whose steady 604 series included games of 183, 208 and 213, improving as he went along.
Nick Wentworth offered support, his second-game 211 part of a 575 series. Jacob Calabria had games of 193 and 189 on his way to a 551 series as Jonathan Artz had a three-game total of 504.
Meanwhile, Liverpool had Raphael Rucker shoot games of 196 and 194 in his 552 series, ahead of a 516 set from Wesley Lell that opened with a 220 game. Thomas Kroks contributed a 457 series.
It went the other way in the girls match, Liverpool prevailing 3-0 as Mackenzie Gill went to the top thanks to games of 195, 202 and 204 to earn a 601 series.
Just behind Gill, Ashley Hardy closed with 200 and 203 games in her 588 series, while Makenzi Ormsby was just as steady, her 575 series including a high game of 198.
In defeat, C-NS got a 461 series from Kathryn Artz. Jennifer Draper’s 375 set was just ahead of a 368 series from Brianna Mabee and a 367 series from Trinity Short.
Right after this, Liverpool faced Central Square, with another 3-0 girls sweep as the boys fell to the Redhawks 2-1.
The girls Warriors saw Hardy shoot steady games of 206, 209 and 209 during a 624 series as Gill closed with 213 and 208 in her 578 set. In between them, Ormsby had a 587 series built from games of 204, 193 and 190.
In the boys match, Liverpool, despite a 1-4 record, nearly upended 6-0 Central Square as Krokis had games of 208 and 203 in his 596 series and Zach Doing closed with a 203 in his 580 set.
Paul Krokis added a 520 series, but Central Square had four bowlers with series of 546 or better, led by Jayden Allen, whose second-game 226 was part of a 596 series as William Allen had a 586 series and high game of 215.
Liverpool’s boys turned it around last Monday, beating West Genesee by that same 2-1 margin. Doing’s third-game 213 closed out a 501 series as Lell had a 380 set.
C-NS got another showdown last Tuesday against Baldwinsville, with the girls taking a 3-0 defeat to the Bees.
Mabee bowled well, starting with a 193 and concluding with a 205 during her 532 series. Kathryn Artz added a 457 set, but it was far back of B’ville’s Amelia Ponto, who finished with games of 248 and 237 on her way to a 680 series.
