ONONDAGA COUNTY – In the last full week of the regular season, girls tennis teams from Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse each would find some measure of success.
The Warriors, who swept two regular-season matches from the Northstars, handled Nottingham 6-0 last Tuesday afternoon without dropping a set in any of the matches.
Angelica Underwood’s 6-0, 6-0 win over Hsar Eh Soe was backed up by Kelly Geiwitz topping Eh Hso 6-1, 6-2, with Bianca Vaccaro getting a singles turn and blanking Jane Muriakatete 6-0, 6-0.
Liverpool’s doubles teams of Diana Kozenyatko-Gabby Underwood and Meghan Bell-Gabby Underwood both won without dropping a game, with Maiya Fitzgibbons and Ashleigh Rosen pairing up to win 6-1, 6-2 over Angelina Nguyen and Hsay Wah.
This happened as C-NS was handling Henninger 6-1, with Autumn Brown topping Samarra Tigner 6-1, 6-0 to begin a singles sweep.
Also in straight sets, Holly Costello handled Esraa Al Masalmeh 6-1, 6-2, with Meghan Obleman going out and earning a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kristen Nguyen. Eve Campitello and Megan Johnston paired in doubles to shutout Thanh and Thanhhngan Nguyen 6-0, 6-0.
It turned around for C-NS on Thursday when it lost, 7-0, to West Genesee, who managed to earn all seven points in straight-set decisions.
Costello played the closest of the three singles matches, falling to Calina Olson 6-4, 6-2. Golden Duro and Mackenzie Wessels extended the second set, yet still lost 6-1, 7-5 to Angelina Allen and Margaret Mello.
Meanwhile, Liverpool fell 5-2 to Auburn, one of the top SCAC Empire division sides, who claimed a pair of pivotal singles matches to go with three straight-set doubles decisions.
Angelica Underwood had beaten Alexandra Vitale 6-3, 6-4, with Kozenyatko and Gabby Underwood blanking Abigail Carr and Claire Diffin 6-0, 6-0.
Jasmine Rawda won the first set against Ella Bouley, only to get overwhelmed in a 5-7, 6-0, 6-0 defeat, with Geiwitz leading Erin Calkins early yet taking a 6-7, 6-4, 10-8 loss.
