CENTRAL NEW YORK – Through another week of matches interrupted in the middle by weather and the observance of Yom Kippur, area high school girls tennis teams remained in top form.
Fayetteville-Manlius again was sweeping past its SCAC Metro division foes, the Hornets blanking Henninger 7-0 last Monday afternoon.
Anna Manta, Trisha Adavikolanu and Laura Scalzetti did not drop a game in any of their singles matches, with the doubles teams of Angela Iskander-Maya McKenzie, Ava Abruzzese-Brooke Tester and Madison Brown-Jada McKenzie doing the same.
It proved far tougher in Saturday’s match against Liverpool, but F-M still prevailed 5-2, helped by easy doubles wins from the teams of Kelly Geiwitz-Jasmine Rawda, Maiya Fitzgibbons-Ashleigh Rosen and Bianca Vacarro-Olivia Valentine.
Natalie Hugo and Katya Quinn lost in doubles, with Adavikolanu falling in singles. Manta had to go three sets to beat Angelica Underwood 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, while Iskander beat Olivia Magnarelli 6-1, 6-4.
Jamesville-DeWitt kept its perfect mark, too, blanking Oswego last Monday 7-0 as Severa Abduvalieva, in singles, preserved the sweep for the Red Rams, rallying past Allyson Burns 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Ella Brann and Ava Harle won the closest doubles match 6-1, 7-5 over Anna Michalski and Beatrice Rastley.
Off until Friday, J-D returned and roared again, blanking Fulton 7-0 by dominating the doubles matches and battling through singles.
In three sets, Abduvalieva rallied past Julianne Delano 3-6, 6-2, 10-7, while Halle Bouchard endured a pair of tie-breakers in her 7-6, 7-6 win over Olivia Cunnigham and Ebunoluwa Oguntola topped Madelyn Delano 6-4, 7-5.
Christian Brothers Academy started its week with an impressive 7-0 win over Marcellus as Gieselle Vlassis and Julia DelPino each won 6-0, 6-0 decisions over, respectively, Lila Kelly and Claire Wrona.
Rowan Doyle topped Kara Wangsness 6-1, 6-1, in third singles, and the doubles teams of Grace Catalano-Aubrey Mills, Lily Geneocco-Isabella Meade, Hana Kang-Allie Mancini and Audrey Schaefer-Meredith Sommers each won in two sets.
Then CBA blanked Cazenovia 7-0 on Friday, again taking all of the points in straight sets. Geneocco and Meade were in the closest match, but still got past Juila Knutsen and Katie Pavelchak 6-4, 6-3.
Manlius-Pebble Hill lost 4-3 to Westhill last Monday, despite points from Emily Zeitsev in singles and Amitees and Parmees Fazelli in doubles. Another doubles match had the Trojans’ Eden Hildebrandt and Fariel Migeed pull out a 7-6, 1-6, 6-2 decision over Olivia Antoine and Megan Dwyer.
But the Trojans beat Chittenango 5-2 with a singles sweep from Zeitsev and the Fazellis, while in doubles Sophia Menacho and Caroline Mezzalingua outlasted Allison Bartozek and Michelle LaTour 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Ileana Anghel and Dahlia Nemes also came from behind for a 3-6, 6-2, 10-5 win over Anna Chatwin and Maya Earl.
Then MPH beat Pulaski 6-1, aided by two doubles forfeits. In the four contested matches the Trojans won, they all ended in straight sets, with Zeitsev beating Lexi Charsky 6-1, 6-2 and Sabrina Loop topping Mackenna Lyng 7-5, 7-5.
East Syracuse Minoa handled Oswego 7-0 last Tuesday, with Brooke Kirkpatrick and Adrianna Byrd each prevailing in straight sets in singles as Lizzy Philips got past Nikki Regan 6-1, 3-6, 10-4.
In the closest of the four doubles matches, Jessica Baker and Angelina Baxter topped Clara Black and Kamryn Bletch 6-2, 6-4. The teams of Rhiannon Axtman-Bella Sylvester, Tierrah Bauer-Gianna Brilbeck and Abigail Cain-Emily Murnane each won in two sets.
Bishop Grimes took a 7-0 defeat to Skaneateles last Monday, gaining its most games from first singles, where Sophia Ziankoski made progress in the first set as she fell to Kenna Ellis 6-3, 6-0. A 6-1 loss to Cazenovia followed, with Ziankoski getting a point when she beat Clare Douglas 6-4, 6-2.
