ONONDAGA COUNTY – Off to a 2-0 start in August, the Cicero-North Syracuse Blue boys golf team entered September determined to climb to the top of the SCAC Metro division standings.
Refreshed from a nine-day break, the Northstars went to Westvale last Thursday and made it three wins in as many matches, handling West Genesee Blue 188-209 in its only match last week.
Five C-NS Blue players broke 40 for nine holes, led by Jake Nardozza’s 36. Sean Lawler, with a 37, was alone in seocnd place, with Sam Thompon and Kaeden Hacker each earning 38 and Drew Kippen contributing a 39.
Beaten in both of its first two matches, Liverpool nearly got into the win column on Sept. 2 against Fayetteville-Manlius White at Foxfire, but the match ended in a 228-228 tie.
Owen Michaud easily claimed individual honors, his 40 four strokes better than the 44 from the Hornets’ Andrew Ahn.
Bradley Cole and Owen Salanger both posted 46, with Kyle Kirkby’s 47 and Bryce Calderwood’s 49 allowing the Warriors to match what F-M White produced.
In last Tuesday’s match with Baldwinsville at Timber Banks, Liverpool could not keep up with the deep Bees lineup in a 187-238 defeat.
Dominick Osbeck shot a 45 to lead the Warriors, but eight B’ville players beat that total, led by Austin McClintic’s 34, Aidan Farmer’s 35 and Nate MacGregor’s 36. Cole had a 46, with Salanger, Owen Michaud and Brady Michaud each finishing at 49.
Cicero-North Syracuse Green absorbed a 188-270 defeat to B’ville on Sept. 3 at Timber Banks. Farmer and MacGregor led the Bees, each shooting 36 as, for the Northstars, Joe DeGroat, Austin Mazzoli and Gavin Goettel each had rounds of 54, with Declan Sullivan (55) and Mike DeGroat (56) close behind.
In last Wednesday’s match against Fayetteville-Manlius Green at the Cavalry Club, Liverpool lost, 192-220, with Kyle Kirkby shooting a team-best 42 ahead of 44s from Michaud and Dominick Osbeck. Cole and Alex Kirkby had matching 45s as the Hornets got a 35 from Velton Pery and a 36 from Jack Sommers.
