After the Cazenovia boys soccer team got its 1-0 shutout over Chittenango on Oct. 24, it waited for more game opportunities through the waning days of the month, with last Thursday’s match against Homer postponed.
Chittenango did not do well in its first game following the Cazenovia defeat, unable to contain Christian Brothers Academy in an 8-3 defeat to the Brothers.
The Bears were able to find the net as Arthur Paul, Luke Dahlin and Jacob Scheidelman each finished with one goal and one assist.
However, CBA overcame Jack Simmons’ 25 saves with a diverse attack that produced six goal-scorers, with only Andrew Kohlbrenner and Will Harrigan scoring twice as Benito Vlassis had one goal and two assists. Three others – Jack Harrigan, Michael Heyboer and Santiago Betancourt – each had one goal and one assist.
Turning it around on Thursday night against Fabius-Pompey, Chittenango played much better defense, and did enough to edge the Falcons 2-1.
Simmons turned back eight of F-P’s nine shots, only allowing a Jackson Breed goal. Then the Bears saw Andrew Albach and Brendon Barnard each turn in goals, with Scheidelman and Connor VanDee getting assists.
Traveling to Homer on Saturday afternoon, Chittenango made it back-to-back wins without much stress, pulling away for a 4-0 shutout of the Trojans.
Paul was responsible for most of this, finding the net twice and tacking on an assist. Scheidelman and Ethan Robles also converted, while Albach and Alek Reymond had one assist apiece.
If all goes as scheduled, Cazenovia would play four games this week, all on the road at Fabius-Pompey, West Genesee, CBA and Westhill.
