Getting its third victory in as many meets, the Cazenovia boys cross country team held back a challenge from Manlius-Pebble Hill last Friday at the Sean Googin Sports Complex.
Orignally, the Lakers were supposed to face Marcelluis last Wednesday, but it got postponed when a positive COVID-19 test closed the school.
Amid cold temperatures, the MPH meet took place two days later, and Cazenovia did enough to edge the Trojans 27-32.
A close race for individual honors saw the Lakers’ Quinn Smith finish just behind MPH’s Will Markwood, whose time of 17 minutes, 59 seconds was two seconds clear of Smith’s 18:01.
MPH also claimed the third spot thanks to Oliver Dreyfuss (19:07) and the fifth spot thanks to J.J. Braverman (19:26), but the Lakers swept the rest of the top 10.
Aidan Coffey was fourth, in 19:23. Then Erich Omans, sixth in 20:45, was one seconds ahead of Killian Blouin (20:46) as Carter Ruddy posted 20:54, Torin Monahan finished in 20:58 and Jacob Ives had a 21:25.
A day later, Chittenango was in action against Christian Brothers Academy, with the Bears’ depth the key to rallying past the brothers 28-31.
CBA claimed three of the top four individual spots, with Chittenango’s Caleb LeBlanc landing in second place in 18:04 to the 16:47 from the Brothers’ Michael McMahon.
But starting with Tristam LaFountaine’s fifth-place 21:11, the Bears swept the rest of the top 10. Alex Brummer was sixth in 21:27, with Manu Tipa seventh in 21:45 ahead of Sam Glazier’s 21:46. Wesley Tedford (22:14) and Quinn O’Brien (22:25) followed.
That salvaged a split since Chittenango’s girls lost 18-37 to CBA, with the Brothers claiming the top four spots before Kiara Waite got fifth place in 22:56.
McKayla Capeling followed, running to sixth place in 24:06, with Piper Beckwith seventh in 24:27. Alyson Coles (24:59) was one second ahead of Laura Powers (25:00) in ninth place.
