Though undefeated through the early portion of its schedule, the Marcellus girls tennis team saw its win streak halted by its rivals from Skaneateles.
Aided by a sweep of all four doubles matches, the Lakers defeated the Mustangs 5-2 in a string of single-set matches, the closest of them having Sofia Capozza and Rachel Hackler beat Sarah Louer and Sophia Powless 9-7.
Otherwise, Ella Danforth and Emma Miller romped past Casey Conklin and Sophia Shaw 8-2. Sophia Soderberg and Alice Spaulding won 8-4 over Bella Clarke and Maddie Vetsch, with Kate Aberi and Kelsey Rutledge beating Angelina Coleman and Sophie Spitzer 8-5.
Marcellus won twice in singles, Danielle Copp handilng Lily Miller 8-1 and Colleen Marsh beating Isabelle Soderberg 8-4, but Kenna Ellis got a point for the Lakers by defeating Kathleen DeMarle 8-3.
Turning around from this, Marcellus faced Westhill on Saturday afternoon and claimed every point available in a 7-0 shutout of the Warriors.
Marsh got an 8-0 win over Sophia Dimovski, while DeMarle and Copp each won 8-2 decisions over, respectively, Kate Hagrman and Bridget Thornton.
Each of the doubles matches went 8-3 in the Mustangs’ favor, with Conklin and Vetsch pairing up to beat Hannah Johnston and Jillian Eckert as Louer and Powless handled Megan Dwyer and Mia Doss, plus Spitzer and Coleman beating Paige Agostini and Isabel Dickinson-Cominoli,
West Genesee returned to action last Thursday against Liverpool, quickly reclaiming its place in the win column thanks to a 5-2 win over the Warriors.
Katie Viau turned back Angelica Underwood 6-2, 6-4 as Angelina Llanos topped Gabby Underwood 7-5, 6-2. Alyssa Congel completed the Wildcats’ singles sweep, handling Meghan Bell 6-1, 6-3.
The doubles matches were split, WG having Margaret Mello and Isabelle Wells blank Maiya Fitzgibbons and Chien Ying Lee 6-0, 6-0, while Angelina Allen and Isabella Allen beat Emma Maturo and Amira Salihovic 6-2, 6-3.
