Area high school girls tennis teams fit in whatever matches they could amid the deteriorating October weather.
A big showdown last Thursday pitted Fayetteville-Manlius against Baldwinsville, two undefeated sides – but just like so many other times before, the Hornets got the best of it, handling the Bees 6-1.
Dominant in singles, F-M had Anna Manta blank Eva Smith 6-0, 6-0, with Phoebe Wang routing Audrey Benton 6-1, 6-0 and Samhitha Adavikolanu winning over Ella Tromblee 6-2, 6-1.
Though the Bees had Paige Tromblee and Brooke Tutor win in doubles, the Hornets’ teams of Alexis Ahn-Angela Iskander, Natalie Hugo-Brooke Tester and Maya McKenzie-Camilla Wojtasiewicz each win in two sets.
Christian Brothers Academy was still undefeated, too, following a 7-0 romp over Cazenovia on Oct. 10. Julia DelPino and Becca Ziemba easily won in singles as Allie Mancini held off Baylee Pierce 8-6.
The doubles teams of Aubrey Mills-Grace Catalano, Annie Kilmartin-Isabella Mead and Meredith Sommers-Audrey Schaefer lost just four combined games, while Lily Geneocco and Hana Kang had to hang on in an 8-7 win over Quinlan Emhoff and Megan Kuhn.
Prevailing again on Wednesday, CBA routed Chittenango 5-1, with another doubles sweep to go along with Ziemba’s 8-3 win over Savannah Drake and Gieselle Vlassis returning to flatten Anna Rooney 8-1.
By contrast, Jamesville-DeWitt absorbed its first defeat of the season last Tuesday against Auburn, unable to get on the board in doubles during a 5-2 loss to the Maroons.
When Inika Gajra beat Alexandra Vitale 7-5, 6-0 and Celia Reid won 6-4, 7-5 over Claire Diffin, the Red Rams gained two singles points, but were kept from anything else.

Caitlin Abbott, in first singles, fell 6-4, 6-4 to Ella Bouley, with Elizabeth Phillips and Bella Sylvester also dropping singles points. In the closest of the doubles matches, Alana Day and Katie Schmidt had a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) loss to the Maroons’ Abigail Carr and Emma Merkley.
Facing Central Square on Thursday, ESM lost 4-3. Rhiannon Axtman and Tierrah Bauer won 10-5 over Savannah Gunther and Arianna Smolnik, with Angelina Baxter and Neveah Harris topping Karina Stewart and Olivia Whewell by those same scores. Savana Caron and Hannah Neish won over Veronica Logsdon and Maeve Rio 10-7.
Now ESM and J-D went head-to-head on Saturday, and the Red Rams shut out the Sparatns 7-0, the closest singles match a 6-2, 6-2 conquest by Oguntola over Baxter. The doubles teams of Keough-Lana Wisniewski, Mona Farah-Tara Pollock, Elina Park-Serena Patel and Hallie Bouchard-Linda Shen each winning in two sets.
Bishop Grimes snared a point from Cicero-North Syracuse in last Monday’s 6-1 defeat. Sofia Ziankoski, in second singles, won 6-1, 7-5 over Angel Luangaphay as Sarah Falgiatano nearly won the opening set in singles, but lost to Krista Feeney 7-5, 6-1.
Then Grimes won on Thursday, topping Pulaski 5-2. Isabelle Kinsey edged Amanda Halsey 8-6, with Falgiatano and Ziankoski also getting singles points as, in doubles, Marin DeTullio and Alivia Duchano held off Lexi Charsky and Katherine Woods 8-6, with Julia Avery and Deddeh Fasama winning 8-2 over Lilah Darrow and Mackenna Lying.
Grimes played Friday and lost 5-2 to Phoenix. Falgiatano and Alicia Kelly won in doubles, as did Eleanor DeChick and Leah Perry, who toppled Sabrina Haynes and Sheriden Southworth 8-4. A 7-0 defeat to Chittenango followed.
